Q: Is the 74 tapered? I have locking tuners

I believe so - they had no problem fitting in the tuners for my 6-string guitar. HOWEVER, I would greatly recommend thicker strings - particularly if you have a longer-scale guitar. I'm currently rocking a .10-.90 set on my 8 string and the difference is incredible. Many people would have you believe that you need expensive active pickups to get a good sound; but with a thick enough set handling the bass register, all the wimpiness I was experiencing is gone.Check out www.stringjoy.com
