A mix of levity, exploring different aspects of the (main) story, and a smidge of drama
I did not know what to expect with the first volume, but it and this one have me hooked. Not only do you see how these books play with the world and characters, but it sheds some interesting details about the world that haven't been elaborated on in the main story like characters having certain known certain information or have certain things way earlier. These aren't spoilers per se, but it does set up some potential foreshadowing for the main story. Sure it could just be the result of having a super powerful unhinged shield hero with knowledge of the future drastically changing things, but certain things wouldn't be explained by that alone. As mentioned in my review of volume one, start these books after volume 16 if you don't want major spoilers for everything before then.
