The brass ring on the leather slider was constantly slipping down and therefore the leash loop that you create for control was working its way past the rib cage of our Walker/Beagle mix and onto his groin which wasn't optimal. I pulled the leather sliding loop (after soaking in water) and brass ring up on to the leather at the top of the leash (it took a little work to get it to stay) and wired it in place with a stainless wire clamp so it doesn't move. The loop you make with the leash still tends to work its way down past the dogs ribs but it is much easier to control now that the brass ring can't work its way very far from the attachment point at the collar.

Not effective as a training device for my GSD. Still works great as a slip lead or a longer leash but as a harness it was constantly stretching and working itself too far down his rib cage. The corrective sensation this provides when the dog pulls is gentle and would work wonderfully for sensitive dogs. I was trying this when my dog was a 9-month-old puppy and he first realized that he was getting big and could physically pull me on a flat collar. I wanted to try something like this before moving to a Gentle Leader or prong collar but it didn't do much, other than make me frustrated that I had to constantly adjust it.

Very well made and has good hand feel. I use as a long leash clipped to a regular collar for nose work and like that I can easily switch to the harness feature if needed. I push the brass ring/leather slide as close to the brass snap as possible to fit my 30 pound beagle. I’m not sure it would fit it he was any smaller. I tie a small knot or loop in the end and it is my favorite leash.

I couldn't live without this leash. I have a 60-lb dog who is uncontrollable otherwise. It really works, much much better than a gentle leader, etc. My dog is the kind that flops around on the end of her leash like a fish when she wants to get at another animal. This leash stops that behavior in its tracks. Only problem with this thing is the ring that the leash is threaded through tends to slip after a while, so you have to stop periodically and readjust it. I've heard some people complain about the lack of a loop on the end. Nonsense. You should never ever wrap a leash loop around your wrist anyway if you don't want to get dragged and have your wrist dislocated by an out-of-control dog. And it's just not a powerful way to hold a leash. A trainer taught me how to do it right. The leash should be looped around your thumb and the two resulting lengths clenched to your palm by your fingers. No dog can pull the leash out of your hand with this tough grip, but you can let go in a heartbeat if things get way out of control.

Well made like all the other Mendota products I have. I have a 75+ lbs. female lab. I just received this item today and noticed on the package it's for dogs 50lbs or less. I wish that was in the product description, or Specs for the item. I did not see that anywhere before or after I received it.I will use it and see how it works.
