A very good clear book in the Lean literature ocean that is so much focused on manufacturing, or selling me consultancy services. Some good clear strong examples. The frequent response of "Oh Lean, that's industry not us" can be readily debunked and there are some good little tips. The chapter on starting lean I found particularly interesting. On the other side I would have liked to have seen more about the "supply chain management" and VSM of specialist supplies in the variety of ER and/or emergency or paediatric surgery "pull". "Unfortunately" in public hospitals one doesn't get to control that person's/family's needs before they come through that door, rendering the TPS house a wee bit unstable. Setting Kanban in that unpredictability !. However did show other aspects that could be used to improve service in those areas. Overall an excellent book for those like me starting on the Lean journey.

This is a very practical book for people who want their hospital's services to meet patients' needs, rather than the needs of the bureaucracy. And to cut costs at the same time. Lots of case studies, diagrams and illustrations. My only reservation is that there's little exploration of the theoretical framework.
