Briggs & Stratton795121 Starter Motor Replaces 499521/497461/497401 , Black

Bought this to replace the ailing starter on my v-twin Vanguard Briggs. The starter that was on the mower was weak and made more weird noises than actual cranking so I bought this to replace it. This spins the motor at twice the speed of the worn out unit that came off the engine. Works well and would buy one again if needed.

The design of these starter motoer leaves something to be desired with plastic parts where metal should be. My old starter had a flat spot and wouldnt turn over my B&S Intek 24 engine 50% of the time and it was getting worse. I read the reviews and decided not to go down the route of an aftermarket starter as there were a lot of reports of starting problems right out of the box and I wanted something reliable. This was an easy replacement - cowlings had to be removed and a couple of bolts (a litte ackward but the engine did not need complete disassembly) and about 30 minutes did the job. The mower starts every time now really easily. An unrelated oil leak has developed (Murphy's Law) which drips oil onto the hot muffler so it looks like I'm mowing in a blue fog. Still it keeps the bugs away and Im hoping it will hold up to the fall when I can pull the engine and repair the leak in slow time. The starter is great and I recommend putting the original B&S replacement part on if you are having any second thoughts about an aftermarket starter.

Perfect fit and exactly what I needed to get the old simplicity rolling again. It can be really tough to get to the replacement bolt on the right side.

An otginal replacement part and at a better price than anywhere else...

This was an exact fit to replace the 14+ year old original B&S part on my Sears Craftsman PGT9000 Garden Tractor. Part arrived in B&S labeled box. Easy to replace... remove the engine shroud and 2 Torx head bolts holding the starter motor on the engine. Install the new motor, replace the shroud. The design of the starter drive gear mechanism hasn't changed. A plastic helix part that rotates the plastic drive gear upwards to engage the engine flywheel gearing.

Ordered this starter and it was easy to install. No dragging on starting my Husqvarna. Works great. I highly recommend this product.
