Helical blades allowed for fast and even sharpening with a nice tip. It only took no more than 2 seconds to bring both artist quality water color pencils and budget coloring book pencils to a point. Very impressive for a 4 AA battery powered sharpener. The tinted window allows you to see if the shavings catch is full. The pencil port is on the top, not the side so this allows for you to stand the pencil as straight as possible so you have less of a chance of breaking the pencil lead. Takes up as much space as two bath size square bars of soap. No cord to fumble around with. A little noisy but you are grinding a wood based object. The batteries add weight so you can use it with one hand. The only thing holding back the 5 star rating is how much it chews off to make the point. I expected some loss but passing 1/4 inch mark on expensive artist quality pencils will shorten the life of the pencils fast. I tried it on budget coloring pencils to see if perhaps the high quality pencils were just softer but it chewed off about the same amount of barrel. I will probably invest in a manual helical sharpener for my more expensive pencils.

This is a great battery operated handheld sharpener without the actual razor blades some sharpeners have. Would recommend.

Great little sharpener. Cannot believe how beautifully this battery powered sharpener sharpens my colored pencils. To a fine, fine point that doesn't leave the tips crumbling or the tips breaking off. Yes, it is a bit loud while sharpening, but I have found a real bonus once you have obtained the point you wish to have-you are able to maintain that tip with a simple hand sharpener. So cool! Especially late at nite when everyone is asleep in your household and you are relaxing with your coloring. Nice and quiet. An added bonus. I have read in other reviews of the difficulty in actually figuring out how to place the pencil in the hole to sharpen it. I have NOT found this to be a problem. There is a guide inside that keeps the pencil from dropping down into the teeth of the sharpener too quickly. I have not had any pencil eaten up as previously stated. You will have total control as long as you are gentle but firm. If you jam the pencil into the opening you will NOT get the results you wished for. I have sharpened literally 150 pencils in the week and half that I have had this sharpener, and the batteries are still going strong. Please use high quality batteries. I think some of the problems people have written of may be the quality of battery. Just a suggestion.This product is worth its weight in gold if you color a lot or use #2 pencils.

This ARTIST CHOICE ELECTRIC-PENCIL-SHARPENER BATTERY POWERED HEAVY DUTY HELICAL BLADE PENCIL SHARPENER is so worth owning. I didn't want another electric gadget to plug in plus I wanted something I could take with me. This pencil sharpener is perfect. It also has a rotating sharpener (helical blade) rather than the razor-type blades which have a tendency to wear out after a while. As I recall the type blade used in this sharpener never wore out when I was in school!It is recommended that LR6 AA batteries be used so I ordered a box. Apparently the days are gone when a battery is a battery LOL but I digress. Once I inserted the batteries I proceeded to sharpen a couple dozen pencils. Every one of them sharpened quickly with no broken points. The sharpener is lightweight (good for carrying around) so I hold it with my left hand while sharpening with my right hand. It measures 2 1/2" tall x 4 1/2" long x 1 1/2" wide, a good backpack carrying size.Should I encounter any problems within a reasonable period of time, I'll repost. This sharpener takes up little desktop space. It also seems well built and sturdy so I suspect I'll stay happy. Highly recommended especially for mobility and for excellent pencil points!
