Famous British Biplane
I love aviation, particularly from World War One and World War Two. I am strongly drawn to biplanes. I have created a Listmania List devoted to biplanes (see Biplanes of Fame) The Gloster Gladiator was the ultimate British biplane. This Squadron Signal Publication, concisely examines the development and service record of this amazing fighter plane. It is packed with photos and the color profiles are superb! Many World War Two British Aces (Robert Stanford Tuck for one) commenced their career on this mount as well as airmen from other countries such as China! An Osprey Publishing title that you may wish to view: Gloster Gladiator Aces (Osprey Aircraft of the Aces No 44) . This title focuses more on the aces and pilots as opposed to the development of the aircraft. Another biplane that often opposed the Gladiator was the Italian Fiat CR/32 CR?42: Fiat CR 32/CR 42 in action - Aircraft No. 172 and a corresponding Osprey title of interest: Fiat CR.42 Aces of World War 2 (Aircraft of the Aces) . Corgi diecast models has very nice replicas of the Gladiator: Corgi Aviation Archive Collector Series AA36201 Gloster Gladiator Mk II Diecast Model RAF No.263 Sqn, Norway, April 1940 and Corgi Gloster Gladiator 1/72 MK1 L8011 YK-O 80 Sqn Pat Patle . "Pat" Pattle was the foremost ace on the Gladiator. Update: soon to be released title from the Osprey Publishing Duel series! Gladiator vs CR.42 Falco: 1940-41 (Duel)
