Another page turner
I enjoyed ‘Close To Home’ so much much I pre-ordered this and couldn’t wait to get started. It moves along at the same incredible pace and is well worthy of the tag ‘page-turner’. I enjoyed the level of character development of all involved and look forward to the next one. The plot is very good, frighteningly plausible and stays just the right side of one twist too many. The author, and no doubt publisher, are working hard to establish the characters as a series and at the rate the books are coming out that seems a distinct possibility - I hope the quality doesn’t suffer as a result as these two books are really really good. Incidentally, just pre-ordered the next one.

Superbly written thriller
This was the first Cara Hunter book I've read and I loved it. I generally like to read a series from the start, but the subject matter of the first book didn't really appeal. I was drawn in by the comments I read about this book. I loved the character DI Adam Fawley and his police team, one of whom shares my surname. I was also intrigued that the house at the centre of things shares the number of the house I live in. I like how this mystery originally seems on the face of it to be a "straightforward" case of rape and imprisonment at the start. No spoilers, but we soon discover it's anything but. For starters this house backs onto another from where a woman disappeared a couple of years before. Is there a connection? You'll have to read it to find out. This book is a delight because as well as being a gripping page turner, there are lots of little extras like police interviews and news reports. The epilogue was good and very fitting, so the ending was excellent too. So good that I've now bought the next 2 in the series to see what happens in the back stories as well as the mysteries themselves. 5 stars from me, Cara Hunter. 1 of quite a few authors new to me that I've awarded them to lately.

A cracking read that kept me guessing until the end
In the Dark is Cara Hunter’s second novel in her DI Adam Fawley series. Personally, I preferred it to the first book. The crime was meatier and more original; a young woman and a small child are discovered imprisoned in a cellar by builders working on the house next door and DI Fawley and his Oxford based Thames Valley Police force are tasked with finding the culprit. It’s a twisty tale; I found myself jumping from one suspect to another and the ending was a revelation.Adding to the richness of the plot are the back stories of the key police officers and their various domestic troubles. I very much liked the character expansion of the team and the respective chemistry and rivalry between them – a natural and welcome progression from Ms Hunter’s earlier volume, ‘Close to Home’ (which I also enjoyed). I’m looking forward to the third in this series ‘No Way Out’ which is due shortly.Overall, In The Dark is a pacey and compelling read and I highly recommend this competent blend of psychological thriller and police procedural.

Review of physical state of book not the content!
Ok, I make a point of buying 2nd hand books and have bought from World of Books a few times no problems at all. However, this particular book smells like it was in a fire! Just awful, really would not count this as 'very good condition' - the acrid smell was apparent before I'd even opened the packacking... trying to air it before I attempt to read it. I guess it is the risk you take buying 2nd hand but I'm normally super impressed with the condition from a number of resellers that I've used. Ah well, rant over...

Can offend
I have read all Car Hunter books now and love the way they are written/laid out with interviews & media detail on every story which keeps the attention held.My only reason for marking this book down to 3 stars is there quite a lot of foul language particularly from one character and I felt this was rather gratuitous and unnecessary. Also rather too much blasphemy and that offends me too.
