A really good book!
We have already done almost half of the hikes in this book and they are all really nice and well described.

My wife and I used the book to go on three hikes during our recent stay in Santa Fe. The book was informative and helped us make selection of the hikes we took.

Woefully out of date
While this book gave me some ideas for hikes, it is woefully out of date. Two of the hikes listed (12 Rio en Medio and 15 Kasha-Katuwe tent rocks) are permanently closed, and the trail at no 11 (La Cieneguilla) is very overgrown and hard to find - not the fault of the authors, but very frustrating nonetheless. One of the best hikes recommended by locals (Atalaya trail) is not even listed in the book. It would be more helpful to have more references to the trail numbers.

Overpriced, less than complete
This is an extremely small book - about 4x7 inches, 97 pages To be honest, if I had seen it in a store (rather than on-line) I would have rejected it as overpriced. It describes 24 hikes. Since I am not native to the area, I don't know if they are the "best" in the area, but I'm sure many others were omitted in the interest of brevity. We purchased the book from Amazon in preparation for a week-long trip to the area in July. The contents are useful, but limited. Directions to trail heads, maps and text for finding your way along the trail vary in quality and are quite brief. The maps are small and do not have topo lines. One useful aspect of the book is seasonal and terrain advice, which seemed to be quite accurate. The geographical range of the book extends in a radius about 50 miles from Santa Fe, but does not cover Taos or ABQ.
