Great Introduction to Chess
Robert Queen does a great job of introducing the beginner to the game of chess. His approach is straight forward and easy to understand. It is clear that he has years of experience playing the game, and is an excellent teacher. My only criticism is that there are a fair number of typographical errors. Even so, I give the book 5 stars !

chess strategies
I am not much of a chess player, but I think you could learn how to play using the information in this book. Looks like it might be helpful.

Disappointing
I dislike leaving a negative review of anything, but anyone who has played more than a few dozen games of chess will be disappointed with this book. The appropriate target audience for this book is for absolute beginners, who have zero knowledge of chess.I have played chess for many years, and bought this book to learn about "Gambits", because that is what is described on the cover, but there is only one paragraph of the book that mentions gambits. The rest is a rudimentary explanation of the very basics of what the pieces do, and some fundamental concepts of strategy. My guess is that the word Gambits was added to the cover to take advantage of the Netflix series, The Queen's Gambit. I did learn a few things reading this book, but everything I learned could fit onto a few pages. It is credited to an author called Robert Queen, and many chapters of the book may actually have been written by someone of that name, but Chapter 3 is a poor rewording of Chapter 1, or vice versa, and Chapter 9 and the Conclusion were obviously written by someone for whom English is a second language, and for whom their first language is likely Chinese, because they are gibberish.I recommend doing what the author suggests doing in his summation; buy a board, find a coach or a partner, study some openings, middle game, and end game strategies, learn to record your moves in notation, and join a chess club.

Terrible
Some parts of the book make no sense, as if the book was translated from another language into gobbeldy-gook, or maybe even generated randomly.

Learn to win
You need to know the history in order to understand the game. Chess is an excellent way to keep a sharp mind, learn the best opening moves, Strategies for the win. Common mistakes to avoid.

quite hard to follow
This book was not edited for grammar etc. and is hard to follow. It does not start with the basics such as setting up a board but jumps all over and repeats a lot. I am a very beginner and had to ask a friend a lot of questions to understand what I was reading. I will not return book but will keep practicing with friend. Not the best one for beginners!

Amazing.
This book is the best thing i've read lately. These days i've been watching this tv series about this girl playing chess, and so i felt the urge to learn how to play chess. When I came across this book, i suddenly decided to buy it and i can state it's a great book. It helps you learning the very basic strategies to play chess the best way. At first, you're introduced to the meaning of each piece of the chessboard and then it teaches you how to play it.I mean, I can't complain about everything. The thing is, it demands a whole lot of attention in order to learn everything since it's a huge book (about 1000 pages).

Incredible guide
I was looking for an English book to learn the game of chess and I found this incredible guide. The first chapter speaks about the interesting history of chess that I didn’t know. After, with the other chapters, I learned to play the game of chess. These Christmas days I’m playing with friend using the strategies of openings and basic techniques for defending and attacking I’ve learned. At the end I think to thank who wrote this book because now the game of chess is easier for me.

Great for beginners!
I've got to be honest, I've always wanted to learn to play chess. Not the basic rules, since those are easily learned, but strategies. I've tried so many times to win a game playing on my old computer. Now I'm learning how to do that thanks to this book, and all I have to do is practice, and I'll be ready to play with other people without being terrible.

Very good!
I bought this book because I'd like to learn how to play chess. The book first deals with explaining the origins of chess and then how to play it. There are also patterns that illustrate the types of movements that can be made. It is very clear and easy to understand. I recommend it for those who want to learn from scratch.
