My Enchanted Garden: Applique Quilts in Cotton and Wool

This negative side of this 3-star review is entirely my fault. I didn’t look closely enough and assumed this would be the same quilt offered as a BOM project by many online quilt shops. I didn’t want to pay the costly price of pre-cut fabrics and monthly block projects and assumed this finished quilt would be the same as those. However, after receiving the book, I discovered that it was an altogether different quilt. This one was designed by Gretchen Gibbons and the other (after post-receipt research) was designed by Jason Yenter. The photo on the left is the Gibbons’ version; the one on the right is Yenter’s.This quilt is nice enough and there are a number of other designs and projects in this book other than the quilt shown in the photo. It just isn’t what I was expecting

I really want to make this quilt and read from reviews on this site that patterns would have to be enlarged so I knew what I was getting into. Got the book and rushed it over to copier without reading. It is expensive and I also had the book spiral bound. Reading directions tonight and on page 6 buried in the text you can go to shopmartingale and the pages are enlarged and you would have to print 4 pages per pattern and then tape it together. Would save you about $20 for copying. These pages at this site are the correct size if your copier doesn’t enlarge. Actually, if this isn’t your first Quilt you wouldn’t even have to buy the book but you should. The book is very well written and the patterns besides the Quilt are adorable. Plus I think you would be stealing.

These patterns are wonderful and will make your fingers itch to get busy on one of them. Ms Gibbons uses a combination of wool and cotton, but they could as easily be done entirely in either fabric. They will make wonderful pillows or tote bags if you don't want to do an entire quilt. Be sure to go to her web site where you can also buy kits for some of them if you don't want to have to figure out the fabric choices. The birds and flowers can also be used independently with other applique designs.

She has some nice patterns but you pay a high price for the book and then you have to go out and pay more to get the patterns enlarged by 200%. Yes it can be done in one large sheet but not all printing places can do that large and the places that can charge a high fee as well as a surcharge to copy from a book. In the end you have almost doubled the cost of the book.

The item wasbshipped and received in excellent condition. I would definitely recommend this seller.

What a fun and great quilt design! I can't wait to start my quilt! I'm glad there are quilt designers that like to share their designs with those of us that know what we like, but can't design ourselves. And Gretchen Gibbons is a talented designer! I loved her quilt when it appeared in a quilt magazine after she won an award for it. So I was so happy to see she had made a book about it!

I have not been able to put down this quilt book since I got it. I have been working on the quilt blocks nonstop. I you want an inspiring project, like to work with wool and an array of colorful fabrics, this project is for you. The book is well written and the pattern were very easy to obtain from Martingale's website. Have fun!!

I have give this book 4 stars as it is a lovely book and it is the type of quilt I would make. Although there are some patterns given full size, some in the book have to be enlarged by 200% and for the quilt shown on the front cover, you need to go to the Martingale website for extras, where you will find the link to print of these patterns - 57 pages and for that I would give the book 1 star.
