The Necromancer's Dance: The Beacon Hill Sorcerer, Book 1

Take a chance on this Dance!
I bought this last year in August 2017 and I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it at the time. Book 3 has just come out so I thought I'd refresh my memory with this and book 2.Main character Angel is a highly skilled necromancer who is clever, blunt to the point of rudeness, a bit of a loner whose only family is his younger brother and a tragic past.Main character Simeon is an elder vampire, strong, sexy, charismatic and charming, who has been patiently waiting for Angel to fully trust him before he shows a romantic interest in him. There is good world building, action, romance, sex, magic, supernatural creatures and the mystery of who is trying to kill Angel to solve. This ticks all my boxes and I found it difficult to put down.Off to read book 2 now.Recommended.

Promising beginning
This story had many of the elements I love in a book - a forced-to-be-strong loner finding direction and love, lots of intriguing vampires, plenty of conflict and good resolutions to the issues raised during the novel.I like Angel as a central character and the relationship between him and his brother was well written.Although I liked Simeon, the main vampire character and love interest, too, I found the speed with which their relationship developed after (apparently) two years of dancing around one another, a bit distracting from the story. Having the whole Leannan, destined lover business dropped on Angel in book 1, felt a bit... premature? I don't know. I didn't like that so much, anyway.I sense that Batiste has the potential to be entertaining/annoying in equal measure. Milly is cool and I wanted her to be more involved. All in all the resolutions in this first volume were good, setting the characters up for further challenges to come. There were quite a few small issues with grammar and typos that ought to have been picked up by a decent editor but weren't annoying enough to make me stop reading. The story should appeal to any reader enjoying tales of magic use and vamps, coupled with a large dose of MM romance.

Book & Audio book review
I haven't really read books with Vampires before they never caught my attention, but if they are of this standard then I have been missing out. The depth of paranormal world building is superb. Vampires, Sorcerers and humans fitted together so well I could picture contemporary Boston like this. My imagination was greatly enhanced by Joel Leslie's narration. The voices he gave to blunt snarky Angelus Salvatore (Angel) the Necromancer and 400+yr old Elder Vampire Simeon were spot on. The gruff Italian American and the lilting Irish was lovely to listen to. Between the narration and the wonderful dialogue when I closed my eyes I could easily picture everything as if I was watching a tv program.Angel and his brother Isaac are the only ones left of their powerful family after the end of the blood wars. Now someone is trying to kill Angel, murdering others along the way. The story mixes a whodunnit with the climax of a slow building attraction between Angel and Simeon. The whodunnit kept me guessing right to the end and both the romance and the mystery complimented each other blending perfectly toJoel Leslie is a fantastic narrator. With him I know I am getting a quality audiobook. It's like listening to a one man play, all the characters are distinct and given as much attention as Angel and Simeon.I wholeheartedly recommend The Necromancer’s Dance and will be looking out for book 2 The Necromancer's Dilemma.I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review

Beyond amazing
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️What an amazing series this is. I binge read all three books because once I started l just could not put them down. Himes has such a way with words, it's just phenomenal. The world building is spectacular, fascinating and days after finishing the the third book I'm still thinking about them.Angel and Simeon are perfect for each other, both bada88es in their own right but together .... a force to be reckoned with.Brilliant story ✓Fabulous characters and side characters ✓Spectacular world building ✓Twists and turns galore ✓I didn't think much could equal Himes' Wolfkin series, but the Necromancer series sure does. I LOVED it!Read as part of my KU subscription

Great long story!
Loved it.Fantasy/SciFi is my thing and this hit all my buttonsGreat Idea, great characters.I got this while I had a free Kindle Unlimited trial and loved it so much I bought it after reading it.The story is set in a 'now' time where magic and magical entities coexist with humans. The main characters of Necromancer Angel and the Vampire Simeon form a relationship while someone is trying to kill Angel... Is that a spoiler? I don't think so.Anyway as I said before, I loved it and bought the sequel immediately after reading this.

Well written
Well written, engaging and often fairly humorous. The protagonist was flawed yet loveable and frankly, his responses was more human (despite his lack of humanity) than many books of this genre. Definitely worth a read. Looking forward to book 2.

Really good read
Book one in this series and we meet a powerful necromancer and a powerful vampire who must battle a rogue vampire and a demon. Great concept with a thrilling storyline with good characters and a hidden enemy. Can't wait for book two out sometime this year. Recommended.
