Remember to order a dictionary at the same time!
Poorly conceived and executed. Far from freeing the learner from the shackles of dictionary and textbook, these short stories require a heavy dependence on both for even the most basic understanding. The lack of planning appears even in the contents pages where the same text is cut and pasted twenty times. The items in the vocabulary lists appear to have been chosen at random, and include many words which are either guessable or which the learner probably already knows. I ordered the book from Amazon but a cursory glance at the poorly written introduction would have put me off. It is clear that the authors have neither the mastery of English nor the insight into language learning to enable them to produce a supportive text. Even the story summaries, short as they are, reveal a lack of facility with natural sounding English. The best that can be said is that here are twenty short stories of moderate difficulty which learners can trudge through at their own pace.

A mix of European and south American spanish
I have given this book 3 stars as it is very good but lucky for me my girlfriend is spanish and from spain, so if you are wanting to learn authentic spanish this book contains a lot of south American spanish that is not used in spain. So be careful!

Not suited for a beginner
This book is far too advanced for a beginner and the way the random translated words are difficult to switch backwards and forwards.
