The inner shell is a blend that allows for water repelling and the outer silver coating is nor only an additional layer of water retention but it also acts as a replacement for Mylar blankets in cold weather. You could, but I like the pockets & mesh bag. If you've ever camped, you know what I mean. Even better to put a small hero clip to hang essentials nearby
