Avidan's 2012 Solo Album is a Bit Different, But I Love It
After 4 albums, his "Avidan In the Box" (downloadable for $12 at his official site), and his early EP, not to mention a "bootleg #2" CD, I can honestly say Asaf Avidan is my favorite recording artist. His music styles varies from CD to CD and sometimes within the same CD, particularly the 3 he did with the Mojos. His CDs are beautifully packaged, contain the lyrics to the songs for the 4 main CDs ("Avidan in the Box" lyrics are available with video on his official site). His first 3 CDs with the Mojos went platinum with 14 countries going wild for his unique and emotional voice. I can't get enough of him, and if you watch some of the MANY videos of him on YouTube, you will see I'm not the only one. He does a great "live" version of the Animals' "House of the Rising Sun" for Paleo TV with a full orchestra that isn't on any of the CDs, and he also does a version of the same song with the Muppets (when Asaf hits a certain note, the Muppet singing with him turns and asks Asaf if that hurt!).This CD is less rock and roll than some of his earlier songs. He seems to switch back and forth from folk to rock. I like all except one rock song when he screeches so loud he could break glass a block away. He's a gem that the U.S. has yet to really discover as his music is all from his own label. The prices are cheap (as is the international postage) even when coming from Israel, and now an American distributor has picked up this CD, so you don't have to wait 3 weeks to get it.I love this CD and highly recommend it! He's going to be BIG, which is great as I'm tired of synthetic, heart and souless dance music that is nothing but pounding beat for clubs. Asaf is UNIQUE! His voice is unlike anyone else (compared to Janis Joplin and Robert Plant), and he writes all his own music and lyrics. He's emotional, non-political, sings in perfect English, and is wonderful to watch as he is not only handsome but is in ecstasy as he performs. He's just starting his first real American tour in Feb. 2014. I suggest you see him before he gets too popular. Tickets are $15 to $25! I'll see him March 7 in San Francisco.

UNFORGETABLE
One of the reviewers wrote that there were few Europeans that have found Asaf Avidan, well there are even fewer of us Americans that have discovered this unique talent. I enormously enjoyed all of his previous releases with the Mojo's and this is definitely a totally new and very unique break from that music. After the shock of the change wore off and I've listened more to this new work I've enjoyed it more and more and discover a new element in it with every listen which distinguishes Asif as a true groundbreaking artist. For those that enjoyed the Mojo's the drummer has formed a new group LFNT which I also enjoy even missing Asif's unique talent. More than ever I hope that the world listens to Asif Avidan and falls in love with his music. Thank you Asif Avidan !

ear candy
Different Pulses is the type of album that wows with the first listen and improves with each subsequent listen. Amazing instrumentals coupled by Asaf's unique vocal style, and talent for capturing emotion within his lyrics, makes for a soulful and relatable record that's good to the last track.

Excellent album. I've not heard any of his other work but this one is brilliant! One man's opinion. Listen and decide for yourself.

Asaf Avidan sings with more feeling than any of America's superstar rappcrappers & bootyjigglers. But screaming in pain doesn't sell well in the U.S. If you like Dylan, you will love Asaf.

DIFFERENT PULSES -THE BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR
This is totally new Asaf Avidan than we ,Europeans ( hmm... well, a lucky minority of them) knew from the previous 3 fantastic records with the Mojos. We have a different sounds&rhythms here.No traditional blues, folk or hard rock tunes. What we got is a new music quality, a mix of modern programming percussion&drum rhythms, keyboards and acoustic instruments like bass clarinet, trumpet, trombone and guitar. All this plus incredible, fresh, distinctive, catchy Asaf voice and great, deep lyrics will put you in a hypnotic state of mind. You won't mistake this guy with anybody else. It's really a fantastic feeling when you are listen to the record where everything is in the right order. The melodies are so soulful and every detail of arrangement meaningful as well. But this is not a collection of songs that are written to make you feel good and relaxed. That's why there are no potential hit songs on this album, with three exceptions - "Different Pulses" , "Love it or leave it" and "613". But all songs will rock something inside of you 'cause they are simply magnificent and timeless.Asaf Avidan shows with this album that he is not afraid to take a risk and discover a new musical areas. And the result is as we can hear: Different Pulses; a masterpiece,an instant classic and without the shadow of the doubt, the best album of the year 2012.

Lovely album
I discovered this while exploring the French ARTE channel. His band are visually appealing and I love this sound. Some songs are a bit gloomy, with the more upbeat stuff at the front of the album, but a very fresh sound. Agree with other reviewers about the Janis Joplin thing. Also discovered his Reckoning track from a previous album, and realised I had head it once before, really liked it, but didn't catch his name so now I know.

Love this - Asaf Avidan's best album?
Musician's music; this guy is great. This album contains many of his lyrical and tuneful songs; you'll find he goes in to some much heavier stuff on other albums, making this an easy listen. Some real favourite tracks here, too. He comes and goes on the internet, hence purchased as a CD.

Great album
I love this singer, he's fabulous. I have recently been to a concert and not only he has an amazing voice, but he is also very engaging, funny and charming. I love this album and I love this artist.

As good as before, but delicately different
If you like listening to Amy Winehouse but sometimes feel like sipping Cohen's poetry, it's worth trying Asaf. Oxymoronic sensations (Jerusalem mark maybe...) - powerful vulnerability, ardent skepticism, fearful dare.

Five Stars
A different kind of music. Unique in it's way maybe even. Relaxing and melodic
