Very nice book

Very excellent book written with a sarcastic flare of a medieval physician. Nicholas Culpeper brings you into a glimpsing portrait of his life and the times in which he lived. He personally walks you through case-studies and charts teaching you the Hippocratic techniques of the Lunar Decumbiture. Are you a serious Ayurvedic practitioner? Learn how to correctly guide someone through a serious illness using the cycles of the Moon.

まず著者にかんする情報から。出生1616年、没1654年なので、ウイリアム・リリーらの古典占星術真っ盛りの時代を生きた人であるのは周知の通り。尚、氏はリリーとは親友同士でもあったようだ。 本書は著者死後の出版である、等の記述のある裏表紙の紹介文は、私達に充分な情報をもたらしてくれるが、手頃に参照出来る処では、ジェームズ・R・ルイス『占星術大全』（鏡リュウジ監訳／原書房）も、ここに書かれていない、面白い情報、記載を有している。 本書、タイトル作（1655年）は古典占星術、医療占星術の名著として既に人口に膾炙しているけども、p.165から最後のp.182迄は、"Urinalia"(1658)なる、別の作品が収録されている。 タイトルの"Decumbiture"について。同じニコラスNicholasでもカルペパーCulpeperでなく、デ・ヴォアde Voreのほうの、"Encyclopedia of Astrology"に拠ると、「人が病にかかった瞬間のホラリー図で、病気の性質やその経過にかんする見通し（予後）及び病気の期間を判断するための図」である。 本書は古典占星術、しかも17世紀の医療を扱っている、という書なので、20世紀以降の占星術洋書のみを読む習慣しかもたぬ向きには、読んでいるさいちゅう、そして読後も、いつもの占星術洋書読書とは異なる、独特のアウェー感があるかもしれない。 これは勿論、英語じたいが古文、ということもあるけども、古典占星術と現代占星術との差異にくわえ、17世紀の医療観が現代の医療観とずいぶん異なることに起因するのが大きいとレヴュアーには思われる。 医療観の違いの先には生活の違いがある。衛生、流行病、迷信めいた事象、…これらが現代の私達のそれとどれだけ違いがあるか、わきまえ考えつつ読み進めるのが前提、とレヴュアーは考える。

The personality of Nicholas Culpeper shines in this book. It s a classic and easy readable book. Gives us the oportunity to identify infirmities without being doctors. The only bad thing that i found in this book is that most of the information that has this book is also found in LillyŽs Christian Astrology. Fortunately, is one of the best written books ever found in astrology.

Just what I was expecting,I love this book.
