Waiting for Lisa Rani 2.0 - journey with adorable twins
Lisa Rani's life is a roller coaster ride - conglomerate of Bengali, Polish, Canadian culture, intellectually vibrant and colorful than many other Bollywood and Hollywood film personalities. Would have liked to know more about her father, Salil Ray whose journey is as exciting as hers. The journey is still going on with the two cute daughters about whom we are expecting to see the next Lisa Ray 2.0. This book is a Must read for children of every Bengali or Polish immigrant! I can bet that Lisa could have earned more name and fame by writing rather than acting though her acting and other artistic skills did not get as much exposure as expected.

Cancer does not define her or anyone
An honest, poignant and inspiring memoir - it is equally filled with humour and deep insights. It makes one realise how what we deem natural to celebrities is often a painful act for them . Anyone affected by cancer should read this book also as it makes one realise that life is not defined by the disease and often we let illness take control of us . And anyone who isn’t also affected must read it to realise that when life throws a curveball it is upto is to decide how we must overcome and move forward . This book is not about cancer it’s a book about attitudes written in such a humoursly poiganant way - an interesting life story with the cancer being just a part of that journey

A difficult story to write!
This book by Lisa Ray is written very well. It’s not easy to pack some 40+years of your life in some 400 odd pages of a book! Lisa has told this very personal and touching story with such ease, wit and composure that it’s difficult to put it down once you start reading it. As I read through the book, I remembered seeing Lisa in the old Ads ... of Garden sarees etc and I remembered the movie Kasoor too. Further reading on, a lot of emotions varying from disbelief, admiration, anger, pain, sympathy pass through your mind. It moves you to tears at times. Dealing with a serious issue such as the car accident involving herself and parents, in her teenage has created a lot of trauma in her life, and dealing with her career in India, relationships, eating disorders must have been also very difficult and finally ending up with diagnosis of MM might have been the last straw! It is good that she has written this book, which is like one form of ‘venting’ and a part of healing process. As for her acting capabilities, she is one talented actress who can emote very well but hasn’t go the right breaks. She should start doing serious roles. And though this book is about a personal story, what it has done is, it has made people open up, think, analyse and talk about their own lives, be it failures or success, or whatever they’ve gone through. That’s a huge thing I feel! This book is a must read for all! Here’s wishing her good luck for future professional assignments and happy times with her kids and family!

Stellar Writing
I’m grinning, I’m sobbing, I’m giggling, I’m laughing out loud. Lisa Ray seems like a butterfly, or a sort of resilient soap bubble. She comes across as a beautiful, transient free-floating particle that appears suddenly, disappears in one place and instantly appears in another. But you can’t stop following her path with your eyes. Her book, “Close to the Bone’ reflects her spirited life and non-conventional choices.I loved that the anthropological aspects were cleverly woven into the narrative. The author has been in many places, and right from her childhood, there’s a significant historical backdrop. Bangladesh before the Partition, Poland in transition, Croatia before the Civil War, Bombay after the riots. The backdrops are both relevant and interesting.I could not put it down. What’s more, I’m really glad I did not, because it’s inspirational, moving and hilarious, all at once.Stellar.
