Tarkovsky does porn. This could be seen as pute sexploitation in the first edition, and it certainly runs a fine line, but it works in this fuller edition. At an emotional price. It is the opposite of arousing, despite portraying most of the perversions. The reason, I think, is the refusal of Charlotte Gainsbourg to appear naked, so that ehr head is superimposed on the body of some other lady; also the use of prosthetics. The result is a lot of sex whihc is disembodied and emotionless - a bit like porn. And that's the point - as one of Joe's mates put it, there's something missing - love. Joe is destroyed in the end by her sexual drives.The first half is funny, with some dreamy memory scenes as the child Joe walks in the park with her father; along with a series of disquistions more or less loosely tied in wiht the sex - some of them irritating. This half is usually very funny though I found it hard to remain with the discussion of how your character is portrayed by cuttng your fingernails of your left or right hand first.The second half can be very harrowing - the self-abortion scene and the discussion on abortion is not recommended to male feminists who don't want their mind changed - actually it's probably not recommended for anyone. The fate of the impotent leering guy at the end (the porn audience, us?) is a bit anti-climatic.In the end, Anti Christ remains the best of his depression trilogy - this has flaws, as has Melancholia (I'd like to change this to four satars but can't)

Spoiler free review here, read this and not the others that give too much of it away.Nymphomaniac is a 2013 film lasting 4 hours (or 5 1/2 if you watch the directors cut) directed by the Danish eccentric director Lars Von Trier. If you aren't familiar with his work, he also directed Antichrist, an experimental horror film, Melancholia, a film about the end of the world and Dogville, a murder film with a stage as the setting. You have to understand him a bit to make sense of what he is trying to say in this movie. There is much to be taken away, religious, musical, mathematical and philosophical references weaves into a story about an adventure that turns dark. It is a must watch if you are a European cinema enthusiast, and aren't easily offended, as real sex is shown and some of it can be disturbing.It begins with a snowy setting in an alleyway where a woman Joe (Gainsbourg) is injured and is found by an old man Seligan (Skarsgard) who offers to help, she refuses, he invites her inside where she drinks tea, rests and recovers while she tells him her story reluctantly. Seligman is a proxy for the audience, a way for us to hear Joes experience, except Seligman doesn't judge, he only listens to her, and makes amusing metaphorical and allegorical comparisons, like relating the process of catching men to sleep with to catching fish. In Von Trier style there is a dark comical element, when Joe loses her virginity the penetrations on screen are counted 3 times, then 5, resembling the Fibonacci sequence, shown on screen. Jerôme, (Shia La Boeuf) is her only recurring lover, played with an English accent not of this world, sounding more like an Australian hybrid. While it is amusing, the acting performances by all (Uma Thurman, Christian Slater, Willem Dafoe as a debt collector) are all stellar as well as the main cast of course. Despite many of the cast limited to cameos as Joes life moves on, the viewer is still provided with a memorable moment filmed with excellent cinematography and Von Trier style archive footage of Lions, fishing, and skies.The tone of part I is playful and lighter in nature, while occasionally shocking, while part II lays it on thick in a much darker way, as the tragedy of this film plays out. It is a tragedy in the classical sense, but like I said I won't spoil it.The characters are written mostly but not completely realistic, as it is much debatable how a woman can be a sex addict and behave in that way, but on the most part, Joe Seligman and Jerome are plausible, and remain so until a twist ending in the final twenty minutes, which in my opinion, the ending was awful and betrayed the way the characters were set up. Some of the plot is illogical but that's just Von Trier.Enjoy the film, I don't reccommend it for everyone and make sure to set time in your schedule to watch it, you have to watch it all at once in my opinion, since it was intended that way.P.S. The directors cut includes an abortion debate, a self operated abortion, and more close ups, which LVT himself was fine with emitting so it you can't get hold of the extended cut, or don't want to spend the extra 1 1/2 hours it's fine also.

If you are looking for an easy film (sorry, correction, films) to help pass your boring Saturday evening that you would of most likely of spent watching Ant and Dec in some program, because lets face it they're everywhere. This isn't it. It would bring you into the early hours of Sunday morning! Good god it is long! In ways I thought it was good and quite touching in ways. But then I thought that explicit sexual things are just being thrown in just for a shock factor and putting an artistic twist on it without the film really going anywhere. It could of easily been put into a normal length feature film if you got rid of all the pretentious bull s***. I did not watch these films in one sitting, otherwise I probably developed bed sores, but watched it over two evenings. When it got towards to the end scene I did feel totally mugged! I had relatively enjoyed the films but then I had the rug pulled from under me and some swear words were uttered, I wont lie. So overall, it was good, but trying to hard and had a stupid ending.

I love these films!! I've seen them a few times!!Very thoughtfully written and directed!!!How the story is told, I think makes this film as interesting as it is.. the way she digresses, as she's telling it and moves through her childhood, adolescence and adulthood but in all different orders.. It's one of those films where you have to watch and listen very intently to keep up with the story!!It's also very stimulating as she speaks of her sexual journey and what she's done and what she's liked. How matter of fact she is,.. Not only about herself but her experiences with sex and how she's been treated too!!It's a very engaging film, that you don't want to stop watching.. I loved them both.. Great to watch as a couple, but also great to watch alone!! I might add that it does have several triggers in it, so maybe check those out before purchasing/watching it - if you're worried.Other than that, the worrying is besieging and I can't think of any negatives just now, other than trivets of violence and sexual behaviour that need might not like.But it is true to the story and its about what makes her who she is!!Enjoy!! 💯😉❤️

The actors provide and unfiltered performance, their vulnerability and descent into madness of each character is heart rending but you cannot keep your eyes off the screen.

Der Film zielt darauf auf, die Begierden einer Frau authentisch zu ergründen, symbolisch hängt unser aller Leben von Macht, Ohnmacht und Begierden zusammen. So gesehen denkt sich Film mit unserem kulturellen Männer/Frauen Verhältnis und Charlotte Gainsbourg reflektiert die Rolle der Frau mit einem spannenden und freien Dialog, zuviel würde man verraten, wenn man den Inhalt hier wiedergeben. Das Pornografische macht Sinn, da es nicht um Erregung geht, sondern menschliche Zusammenhänge und Abhängigkeiten! Künstlerisch einfach überzeugend! Hochaktuell!

Como todos vi la versión cortada en cines y en cuanto vi que si estaban vendiendo la versión de director en Amazon no Dude en adquirirla.No tiene especiales más que algunos cortos y pequeñas cosas pero incluye las dos partes divididas en dos discos. Audio solo inglés Master Audio HD con subtítulos en español. A pesar de ser una edición de Estados Unidos es muy buena y como la región de los blu-ray es la misma que la nuestra, cualquier reproductor lo leerá sin problema.

Dissapointed that blue ray capacity had 1080p output .... thats a bummer.Plays in Australian playstation no problems at all .... reasonable price too thanks 😊

先ずDeskはVol.1とVol.2の２枚有りますがストーリーが２枚に渡って展開して行きます。会話はEnglishのみで難しいですが私はEnglishの字幕を表示して見ましたので聞くよりも字幕見て理解する方がわかり易いと思います。ストーリーはjoeとSeligmanの２人の会話で進んで行きます。表題のNYMPH MANIACは色情狂と思いますが色々ストーリーが飛んで展開して行きますので難しい部分も有りましたが☆５にしました。リージョンコードは（２）です。
