DECEN coffee Grinder, Black

Takes a while to grind enough for a pot, but this is a durable little device that does exactly what you would expect and hope.It takes me about 4 minutes to grind enough for a pot of coffee, at a moderate, steady pace. If I don't have the little silicone lid in place, it sometimes hiccups and spills some of my beans on the counter - I consider that to be operator error, though. I should've had the lid on.

The courser the grind, the easier it is to turn. I'm using a press for regular coffee, not espresso, so the beans can be ground more course. I love that it comes with a lid for the jar because I like to grind a few days worth at a time. I would love to grind daily, but I just don't have time. There is also a cover for the grinder. This is convenient because I fill it up and then again half way for three to four days worth of grounds. If you fill it up with beans, you have to use the cover or the beans jump out. It's fairly easy to take apart and clean, which is a must if you are using medium to dark roasted beans. They're very oily. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with this purchase.

Don't waste your money on this. Buy the Hario instead. It's a little more, but it's better made and easier to use and clean. I bought this as a backup to my Hario manual coffee grinder. This grinder is a Hario knockoff, but the quality does not compare. The hopper is misshapen - elliptical versus circular which affects how well the hopper cover attaches, which is not very well. It is harder to disassemble due to three steel prongs at the base of the hopper. The burr must be screwed off, and these prongs disallow the coffee beans from moving into the grinding area. The grinder has to be tapped or shaken constantly. The Hario also will screw onto any regular Ball jar if you need to grind more than the glass jar will hold whereas this Decen will not. Disappointing. In all, get the Hario. You will be happier.

This grinder is useless. It might be okay in an emergency or when you are camping, but don't expect consistency. It is not for every day use. The metal parts are cheap, the screw that is supposed to set the granularity rotates on you so you end up with a mix of fine and coarse coffee, the handle is cheap and flimsy. I woudn't pay more than $15 for this product. If it weren't used, I would return it.

So far I'm getting consistent grinds with this grinder. I "upgraded" from one of those automatic blade ones. I never got anything close to consistent with that one. This one does a great job for my french press. My only complaint would be sometimes it doesn't feed perfectly and the jar isn't big but I knew that when I purchased it.

Works very well for what it is (a manual grinder). It's a little fiddly to change the grind setting, so if you switch between espresso and a coffee press it's a bit of work. It also takes some experience to learn which setting leads to what grind smoothness. But the build quality is very good, and I like that the bottom can be used as a storage container for grounds.

I'll have to work out more to be strong enough to grind enough beans for a pot of coffee in less than hour. Guess you need patience and lots of hand strength to use this. Otherwise, it is well-made and probably long-lasting.
