Fun Project
This was a fun little project and quite the conversation piece. Instructions are minimal but that adds to the fun as you get to spend a little time figuring out how it goes together. Once you figure that out, assembly is straight forward. The kit uses some rather small screws and nuts which can get away from you but my kit had spares, so not to worry. They even include a little screwdriver and wrench (for the switch nut) so you have everything you need for assembly except two AAA batteries.

It does what it's supposed to do
If you are into putting things together, the fact that you have to build this DIY should not bother you. The assembly is weird and you have to be keen. The floor of the box comes with the engine screwed to it already but with the dark glossy side to the inside, suggesting that the dull greyish side goes out. I assembled it with the black side out so I ended with a black box with a greyish floor. The legend "useless box" is printed on the Grey side, so it was not visible to me. The glossy part had some blemishes that I was not able to clean off.I was going to give it as a jest to someone but opted out. It is small. If you want something really sturdy, perhaps you should look somewhere else.

Frustrating assembly process, but functional
Nut-and-bolt assembly is a tedious hour-long process. Nuts are supposed to be captive in slotted plastic, but being plastic it is very subject to wibble wobbling unless you luck out and get just the right torque in just the right position. The instructions are illegible copyofcopyofcopy blobs, but it's not hard to figure out. Once assembled it functions as designed, with a fast on-off action. Dropping it or perhaps setting it down hard might dislodge "captive" nuts; not recommended for unsupervised kid play. It did come with a nicely crafted micro Phillips head screw driver. Cheap fun I guess.

Useless box but no personality
I had done a search for sassy useless box so I thought the mechanism would have programmed variations to turn it back off. It just flips the switch.
