My review for the cartridge follows this little tip. If you have a pool that uses a cartridge filter you have to try this. The hairnet acts as the first line of defense, getting stuff the skimmer basket does not - Hair, Bugs, sand and dirt when vacuuming. The hairnets come in a 100 pack for $8.86 ($0.09 each) and are disposable. I change it daily or every other day.Before discovering these hairnets for the skimmer basket, I was cleaning the cartridge with a hose 4 times a week. Now I clean the cartridge just once a month. What a HUGE time saver. It may have, but it was almost impossible to clean because small debris built up deep in the pleats . We got a summer and a half out of it before frustration in its cleaning set in.As a replacement, I bought this Unicel in 2013. Worked great through the end of the summer. Used it again this spring. Like the Hayward, it can only be cleaned so many times before the junk begins to build up deep in the pleats, especially the cottonwood fuzz. We could buy the Hayward and pay the extra money but it really won't last much longer and, as with this model, gets more difficult to clean as time goes on.I just buy one every year and install it mid-June (or after the cottonwood is down). Having a new one each year cuts down on aggravation of low pressure with the filter and having to clean the unit multiple times per week.In my opinion, it's the best bang for the buck.----Edit to original post----Fig'd I'd post the price history. Bought this after I got tired of paying high prices for Hayward filters. This has a lot of great reviews, but I absolutely can't agree. After only 3 months, this filter was clogged so badly my pump could barely move water through it, and all my cleaning efforts made no difference. I've replaced it with my backup Hayward filter that I cleaned and set back after 18 months in service. Side-by-side, the quality difference between this and the Hayward filter scream at you. The pleats in the Hayward are totally even and consistently spaced. The pleats in the Unicel are bunched in some places and spread in others.After this experience, I've decided the Hayward filters are worth the extra, and the Unicel don't provide any actual savings.

I have learned through much trial and error and trying to save money, that buying generic cartridges are just not worth the trouble. They fall apart, they don't filter right and you get what you pay for. With this cartridge you're sure to have a wonderful season. Easy to clean if you do it right, and plenty of high quality panels to filter a 24' round 54" tall AGP with a 125hp pump. Unicel is the best. And shipping is lightning fast. Thanks :)

Wow what a feeling! Our pool has been a green slime pit most of 2017. Then this week I discovered PHOSPHATE control, and a day later, its a blue as it was last year.So, a great time to replace the old clogged filters (I rotate 3 in and out of service). I ordered this 2 days ago, and when it arrived, it was the perfect replacement for our Hayward 1200.And the price was 1/2 the local pool store. I don't mind spending a bit more with them for the convenience, but 2X?? Plus I get the convenience of delivery to my door.I was so impressed, I just ordered ANOTHER ONE. Would have given 5-★ if it was < $50. But still even at $60, a good deal.

I have a Hayward Star Clear Plus 1200 filter system and am used to cringing when knowing I had to go and purchase a replacement filter each year from local pool supply stores. They want me to replace them annually and I would drag out the purchase several months by cleaning the current filter as many times as I could. This Unicel replacement filter fit perfectly and was about half the cost I was used to seeing at the pool supply stores. I was hesitant at first not seeing what I was ordering but the package arrived quickly and the filter cartridge was safely packed and ready to go. I installed it within a few minutes and it worked flawlessly as designed. No mess no fuss. I especially like ordering larger items and having them delivered instead of driving around with these in my car. For replacement cartridges, I cannot recommend this approach for cost savings and the simplicity of delivery highly enough. I am pretty meticulous and even with my filter cleaning sometimes I still see little floating filtrates around in the water at night with the pool light on. After using this cartridge for two days, the filtrates are gone and water is crystal clear.
