Took me maybe 10min or less to install. Now I don't have worry bout my kids just slamming my tailgate down or having to let it down easy when I'm getting things ready to put in the bed of the truck. One hand to just unlatch it & it falls down nice & easy! Very functional & takes the shock away from dropping the tailgate, its super light weight & has been threw many car washes,storms & winter. The durability of it speaks for itself!

Very easy to install and works great. Pickup truck owners need this amazing item. Great price and highly recommended.

My entire experience with this Heavy Duty Tailgate shock was disastrous. I ordered it on Amazon which listed it as an “OMT Compatible with 09-22 Ram 1500 2500 3500 Pickup Tailgate Assist, Truck Tailgate Lift Assist Kit Compatible with 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 Dodge Ram”. I have a 2020 Ram 1500. It did NOT fit.This comedy of errors began with the initial delivery from Amazon. They delivered an empty plastic bag addressed to me and emailed me a picture of the “flat” empty bag saying they had delivered my order. I the had a long call with Amazon Support trying to explain that my order had not been delivered, I received an empty bag (and they had a picture to prove it). After arguing that, “No, I did not need to check with my neighbors, or around the outside of my house, to make sure it wasn’t “just” lying somewhere else”, they agreed to send a replacement. And then the real fun began.When I finally received it and began to install it, the first thing I noticed was that the enclosed instructions stated under a “Fitment” header that it fit “2009-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500”. Before proceeding with the installation, I contacted OMT support to very it was supposed to fit my 2020 Ram 1500. I also told them that the nutsert included appeared to be too small for the slot the instructions said to put it in. The replied it was all the correct kit for my truck.I proceeded with the installation – or tried to. I had to deal with that the pictures in the instruction were all of a 2009-2018 Ram. 2019 and later is quite different. The tailgate latch post and cable bolt are recessed into the bed upright (and not on the earlier models). The hole on the tailgate hinge the instructions say to put the nutsert into is a slot and much bigger on my 2020 than what is pictured. I stated by installing the nutsert. I had difficultly because it did not fit snuggly in the slot and I had to tighten it considerably more than the 9 turns the instructions say before it became stable and ridged.I then moved to installing the Ball Mount, which the instructions said needed a 13 mm wrench. It wasn’t 13 mm, it was a 12 mm. This made me wonder if I should have gotten a larger nutsert and ball mount.I then moved to removing the cable bolt with the include torx wrench. That wrench did not fit, it was too big (T50). The cable bolt was a T45. I had to stop and go buy a T45 socket ($6.00). It wouldn’t have mattered if the included wrench had fit. It was too short to remove the cable bolt. It was so tight (with locktite) that I had to use my impact wrench to get it out.I finally got the ball posts in and started putting the shock on. I rubbed on the bed upright and pulled the rubber gasket off it. When I finally got it on and tried to lower the tailgate for the first time, it immediately pulled the ball mount and nutsert out of the slot on the tailgate hinge. The slot was so wide that only the very tips of the expansion arms on the nutsert had any purchase and two of the four immediately folded in.I removed the shock, boxed up all the pieces and threw it in the trash! That’s my advice.

I've often wondered why the manufacturers do not include one of these at the factory as it greatly improves the lowering of the tailgate. It is easy to install and really slows down the tailgate dropping. The only problem I have is living in Alaska, cold temps (below 10 degrees) causes the oil to thicken and it really slows the opening of the tailgate. Still, I find it much easier to just let the tailgate fall at its own rate than hang on, with gloves, so it doesn't bang open.

Updated review. Spoke with the company and they sent replacement. Installed it correctly and it has been working as described.Loved the product initially, my Ram tailgate is heavy! I wanted the lift because I was always worried about my kids getting hurt opening the tailgate. Well, today it almost happened, but it was because they were used to it opening slowly and the tailgate freely fell open. The little part you screw into the tailgate had broken loose and so there was no connection to the shock. Could have been real bad. I loved it until I didn’t.

A friend of mine told me about these so I decided to give this one a try. The installation instructions aren’t exactly the clearest however, the product itself works well. I had an issue with the first one that was delivered, but after contacting the seller, they sent me out a replacement right away so bonus points for them.This thing makes opening your tailgate a pleasure, no more tailgate slamming down after you release the handle. I recommend this mod for your pick up truck, it worked well for my RAM 1500.This thing is quiet and has enough stiffness to slow down the tailgate once you open it.

Install was easy and fairly quick. The directions could be a little more clear, but if you think about it when you install it, it's pretty logical. Directions say something like, "put this spacer 3" from the end of the cable", but it's not as clear as it sounds. It's actuall 3" from a different point in order to work right. Don't worry though; it will become clear when you install it. Function is flawless and the tailgate moves smoothly all the way down. This kit is half the price of one of the big-name manufacturers and every bit as good, with nearly identical parts! My install was on a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic.

Installed on a 2022 RAM 2500 Big Horn. I have installed these units before, but this is the first time I tried this brand. Instructions were vague, but I was already familiar with what to do. Finished the install in 30 minutes. I closed the tailgate, and when I went to lower it, the tailgate came crashing down like it always had. The piston had popped off the upper bracket mount. When I close the tailgate, the tailgate cable's upper attachment hardware puts direct pressure on the top of the piston, forcing it off the ball mount. There is no way to adjust anything to give it clearance. I messed with it for another half an hour trying to figure out what to do, and just ended up uninstalling it. A total waste of time and money. UPDATE - I changed my rating from one star to three due to the response I got from the seller. They read this post and immediately reached out to me to try to make things right. That level of customer service is rare and appreciated. Although disappointed that the device wont work on my truck, I would definitely order from them again.

Does exactly what I expected. Dampers the tailgate when I open it. Install was pretty easy
