We bought the first ratsack for a backpacking trip in Grand Canyon. On a previous trip some of our food was destroyed leaving us with empty bellies and a long way out. It is imperative that our food remain intact as we had no room in the packs for spare anything.This rat sack is unbelievably light and stretchy. We stuffed so much food in it and hung it from a tree. Since we were concerned about ravens, the first time we wrapped a plain white trash bag over the rat sack so ravens could not peck tiny holes in it. The next trip (Grand Canyon again) we didn't bother.The metal fabric is knitted together so it stretches to fit. The Velcro is extremely secure. At first we had trouble opening it until we mastered a technique opening it from the center while gently sliding a hand inside. It's ability to reclose keeps out pesky rodents. The ravens were uninterested in it this time.We bought a second one to store our garbage in. It hung from the outside of my pack by its big solid loop and biner. Although the scent proof bags were supposed to be for food and deodorant. We stuck the stinkiest trash in it during the long backpacking trip. Best decision ever.Initially we were afraid that the metal mesh would damage our gear, never happened.

I can’t imagine bringing a huge bear container on my solo backpacking trips, so I was happy to find this option. I put my food inside very thick plastic bags that are advertised as no-smell for bears (bears can smell food through anything though) and then put the plastic bag inside this and hang out on a tree limb a distance from my campsite.There are instructions in here on stringing up the bag, or plenty of advice online on the topic. Check it out before your trip if you don’t already know - then you’ll be prepared for various problems you could encounter like not finding that perfect tree limb and needing to improvise, or like me realizing that you have a terrible throwing arm especially for lightweight ropes ;)

Took backpacking and it got the job done! Definitely had a strong odor at first, but that finally dissipated. We hung from a tree, and it kept our food safe. The odor proof bags were nice too!

I've no idea if this does what it says on the tin - I bought it because I needed a clean place to contain blocks of ice so I could smash them with a hammer and not have the pieces go flying everywhere. I'm writing this review because that's actually quite punishing - ice is surprisingly good at destroying soft containers, even when made of tough fabric. However, this stainless steel sack held up nicely, so it probably won't fall apart on you. Whether it will stop a wild animal from eating your food is another matter. Make of that what you will.

Really like this bag

I wanted to wait to write a review until I had used this product a few times. My children and I backpack often it’s large enough to fit all our food the sack itself held up perfectly and the smell Proof bags were a great add! The Velcro was super heavy duty even my kids had a hard time opening it. We have also gotten rained on and honestly I like the metal mesh and smell prof bags nothing got wet and we shook it off and put it right into our packs. I recommend this product! Absolutely love it!

The product not as shown, didn’t receive rope and carabiner that was suppose to be part of the package, really disappointing in missing item and the 11 day late delivery.

The Ratsack bundle was a perfect gift and I would recommend it to any avid outdoorsman like myself. The lightweight stainless steel mesh bag was durable and easy to carry while backpacking through the Grand Canyon. A great addition to the bundle was the Coghlan's odor proof bag, when paired with the Ratsack, we had no issues with any squirrels, or bears getting through our food while stored in the bear bag. Can't wait to use this ultra light dry bag on my next trip!
