This is such a great book! The text about each of the composers is so interesting and engaging. There is a section for each composer that tells what was happening around the world during the composer's life. I love the big picture this paints. The music selections are perfect. The CD also includes a pdf file of the entire book. I love everything about this book!

I use this book daily with a music history class, however I will say that the copy I have has many discrepancies. There is a page that spells Aaron Copland's name incorrectly. The page about Haydn claims that Haydn and Handel met in 1791, only problem is, Handel died in 1759... I have found a few other small typos, but other than that it's a great starting place to learn about some pretty great composers.

I really like the layout of this book. Good for group work or individuals. Recordings (cd) are handy!

Great resource of composers to use with a middle level general music class. I like to use the composer info sheets as we are learning & reviewing the concepts for each musical era.

I enjoy using this book to demonstrate different composers from each time period. A lot of useful listening examples to show the differences between each ear. One of the music eras does not have a recording to demonstrate it, with is a BUMMER, but overall, the book is GREAT!

I am using this book to supplement my junior high Music Appreciation class. It is by no means a comprehensive review of music history; however, I have found it extremely helpful in highlighting some of the main points of each musical era as well as of some of the main composers. My students are responding very well to the material.

I ordered this book for one of my wife's young piano students. He was over the moon.
