Difficult to install, here's the trick
To get these onto the rusty prongs on my Sear dishwasher, I put liquid soap on the rack prongs as a lubricant. I worked the end of the cap onto the prong, then used a dish towel to grip and twist them down all the way onto the prongs. In some cases the caps were so tight that I had to put a heat gun on them for three seconds to get them to stretch more easily over the prongs. I don't think a hair drier would work, you'll probably need something hotter. I've run the dishwasher, and none of the caps has come loose.

Work as intended
Note: They can be tough to push on, and the process hurts your fingers after doing a dozen in a row since they're so tight-fitted (the way it should be), so you might need to take your time doing it or ask a friend to do it for you if you have finger/joint/wrist pain.Little end caps to put on your dish washer. Works as intended, with plenty left over in case you need to replace them. They've held up to over 10 wash cycles so far, the only "downside" is that they stain from tomato juice, but that's not an issue. They clean, are a tight seal, and no moisture gets under them. I like these since the metal prongs are less likely to push through and scratch my pots & pans now.

It fits 5mm round tip. Need to know how to do it.
Most complaints in the reviews are about not fit-cap being too small. Still I bought it. I had confidence that I would make it work. Here is what I did successfully. My basket wire tips are rounded tips, measured at 5mm. See in the photo.1. Boil water in a cup.2. Use any pointed object, like needle pliers, and stick it into the cap. See in the photo.3. Soak the cap in boiling water for 1-2 minutes.4. Take them out from hot water. Expand the cap opening with the tool, say plier - make the cap opening larger than the wire tip.5. Cover the cap opening on the wire tip.6. Push down, use a cotton glove or cloth to add fraction. You can twist and push down the cap till fully on.6. Change water if it is not hot enough. Hot water makes the cap soft and easy to put on.I am sure that you can make it!

Failure! Wrong size, so unuseable!
Universal!? If these fit most dishwasher racks then where are the tiny wire racks that they will fit onto? I ordered these to extend a repair kit that included paint and caps and I needed more caps for the prongs on the second rack. The caps in the kit fit fine but these were far too small/skinny.Note: I ran out of the paint that is used to cover the rusted areas (after they are cleaned) and thought I would go to my local hardware store and buy the hand-tool handle dip in white to finish the job instead of waiting a couple weeks for more of the kit paint. I bought the spray on option for ease of application but it is used almost the same way. This tool handle dip is great for tools but totally incompatible with the caps and dishwasher repair paint, neither would dry even after 5 days.

Fixed Whirlpool Rusted ends, method for easy install
Great fix versus spending $400 for just new racks when the dishwasher cost $500’ish. This whirlpool was about 2-3 yers old btw. Should not not rusting, but this will buy me a year or so before replacing all appliances. Installing them directly over tines is impossible (dry) without some form of “lubricant”. My approach was to cut off the rust down to the normal tine thickness, soak the caps in warm/how water to make more flexible, grab a cap, dunk under water, pinch and release it to suck in water, then work it over the top of the tine just to get it started. Once started, pinch the tip of the cap to force out water and wiggle it down very easily. For harder to get-on caps, I used a rubber glove on my other hand the grip better and twist them on. Took about 20 min for both racks. Warning: If you have OCD, be sure to cut all tines off at the same height :-) I didn't do so in order to save as mush as possible.

Not as pictured
When the end of a dishwasher tine loses its coating rust appears. The rust on the ends is rough and misshapen. These caps will fit over smooth clean times but would NOT FIT over our rusted ends. We tried several brands before we found some that fit well. The ends of these caps are too tapered and would not fit. Pictures were misleading, one photo shows the cap looking flat on the end and it isn’t.Luckily Amazon offers multiple brands and we did find another that fit well.

Some additional helpful hints
I read all the reviews and tips which were very helpful. This was still not easy but I used a hairdryer, I have a really hot one and heated each one (which I cut a little shorter per suggestion) while mounted tip of the needle nose pliers which heated the metal also, used some petroleum jelly to lubricate and found rubber glove suggestion okay, but worked even better with a strong paper towel to hold onto the tip while I twisted it on. The ones that had mushroomed out I cut with some wire cutters (just the rusted part because not strong enough to cut through the whole prong) and they were still a pain but I got them all on. I pretty much did the whole bottom rack and it took hours but hopefully will last me a while until I really need a new dishwasher. Time consuming because it was cut one, heat it, get it on; next one...
