Basic dropper works well as long as clean. Use on mtb with caution.
My first dropper, and out the box it was easy to fit and smooth operation. The only problem was the large loop of cable can get pushed down ontoreat tyre. You can cut the cable to length but I didn't bother. Cable ties and tape have sorted.Okay BIG heads up: the mechanism worked smoothly in the house, but only lasted about 5 minutes on the wet Bike Park Wales trails. Crud and grit get coated on the exposed spring and release rocker and seized up. Even after cleaning and freeing, it is still gritty. I have tied an elastic chord to assist the return spring! I have now made a neoprene sleeve to protect this vulnerable area, and HIGHLY recommend you do so too before even leaving the house! Seriously you will thank me. In operation I like it, I don't mind that it only has 3 stops, they were fine for me (climbing, cruising, descending) it's only just over 100 mm anyway, but did make a huge difference when descending in confidence. As a trial to see whether I will bother with dropper, definitely worth it. However, in hindsight I would put an other £30 and plump for Brand X post with internal cabling (easy to drill a hole in seat tube) this achieves 2 things : protects mechanism from mid grit etc; stops annoying cable loop.

Substandard parts
Mechanically functioning dropper, but made with substandard parts. My son used this dropper for two months until it stopped working. Taking it apart I found that the dropper rod was rusting from water that seeped into the post through bad seals. The rust had covered the rod, spring and sliding parts, and prevented the push bearings from locking on the dropper rod. The push bearings showed grooves and signs of wear, and this would never have happened on normal steel bearings. Both could easily have been avoided if it was made from stainless or high quality parts instead (and had proper seals). The return spring on the wire is also too short.

Your only choice if you are tall and need 27.2 mm
If you have a 27.2 mm seat post, your options are limited. PNW do one with 100 mm drop, The Gravity Dropper has 4" of drop (around 100 mm). The Thomson elite has 125 mm and drops to around 6 cm above your seat tube top, but extends lower than this. This only drops to 9 cm, but therefore is 3 cm higher at full extension (both are 125 mm droppers). Therefore, if you are tall, this is your only choice. If you are short, get the Thomson at £278.This takes a bit of faffing with installation. The clamp for the seat rails is fiddly and you need to do 2 bolts and take the top bit all the way off, unlike my old one where all you had to do was undo one bolt twist the top, put seat on, twist back and do up.The cable is very long but you can cut it if needed. I didn't.When dropped, the cable does leave a loop, so you have to use the cable ties carefully so that the loop isn't pushed towards the wheel, suspension or cranks. All 27.2 posts are external routing though, so I expect the same problems. The return is quick but the spring isn't too strong so you need to give it a joggle with your bum to make it click up, otherwise you'll sit and it'll go down a notch. If keep the cable well lubed to help this too. I might make a cover or elastic assist like another reviewer.Any way, this is really my only choice due to my height.
