SUPERMAN: THE MUSIC (1978-1988) CD BOX SET

I have collected soundtracks for nearly twenty years, and the boxed sets such as Superman: The Music continue to astound me for their audio quality and lovingly creation by their producers. Whenever a boxed soundtrack set is produced, one can immediately tell whether the music in it contains a simple combination of past sequential albums or a faithful, remastering of every note, every measure, every crescendo/decrescendo that a composer wrote. Without trepidation, Superman: The Music falls into the latter category. Eight discs, totaling over nine hours of music makes a very strong case for Superman's place amongst the most prolific of film scores in modern film. While John Ottman's score to Superman Returns - a notable contribution to the Superman franchise - is missing from this collection, the collection does contain original music from the Superman animated series.The audio recording quality of these recordings is superb. Like preceding boxed sets such as Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings and the latter three Star Wars films, Superman; The Music's producers have taken the opportunity to include as much music as possible, and enhanced the value of the collection with a hard-back book of insights into the franchise's musical evolution.Obviously, each film's soundtrack takes on the qualities of its' composer; however, each composer -Williams, Thorne, Courage, and Jones for his work on the animated series) must given credit for continuing and enhancing the themes set forth and in the public conscience of Superman's "sound". John Ottman realized the how important the music is to the Superman franchise with his work on Superman Returns, and its' evident that he was preceded by that homage with Thorne's work on Superman II and III, Courage's work on Superman IV, and Jones're-envisioning of Williams' themes for the Superman animated series. To say John Williams set the bar high for his successors is an understatement.Should Hollywood have its' way, and Christopher Nolan and company do reboot the franchise, they would do well to listen faithfully to the music of the four original films, and try to capture the same sense of Superman that many, like myself, think of when they hear Williams' Superman theme - that Superman is one-of-a-kind, and he's, well, super.

I always will consider this soundtrack set the best for the Christopher Reeves Superman films. Everything on the music very iconic to the classic films

my favorite soundtracks. just wished j. williams played on the remaining III movies. also wished the box set was made larger. anyway i love it. all you superman fans buy it before they all go.****
