Much more than expected

I received this product at a discount in exchange for my open and honest review. I also received the Sameia watermelon knife as well. My goal was to compare the two and keep the one I liked best and give my best friend the other. But I'm having some difficulties deciding which I like better. This one is just about a dollar cheaper, so not a big difference there. Both products sliced through the honeydew perfectly easy (I can't buy watermelon easily living in Japan--they are about $18 each, so I buy honeydew which is much more affordable). It makes me think these will also work perfectly on the watermelon because watermelon is a little less solid. What I like about this slicer is the handle is rubbery and it has a good grip, even when things get slippery during the slicing process. The other was solid metal, so it was slippery. This one though is much less sturdy than the other one though. It just feels like it's a bit flimsy. Also this one has a fruit shaper on one side of the melon baller, which I can honestly say I'll probably never use, but it's nice to have. The Sameia is just a baller with two different sized scoops and no fruit shaper. But honestly, I probably won't ever use the melon ballers either because I'm not fancy enough to ever have that kind of party! So in terms of which watermelon slicer I'm keeping... well, it's a toss up! My plan is to let my friend come over and just pick which one she likes better, and I'll take the leftover! I'm happy with either one, and it's not really a product I'm going to be using all the time, so either will suit my needs.

My watermelon was around 19lbs. I guess this may not be the best knife to use for a huge watermelon. It maybe good for a personal size melon. As it is a big watermelon, I have a hard time to cut it all the way down to the bottom of the melon. It was cut around 3/4 of the whole length. I can use it to take out the cut pieces out. As long as you can get to the bottom of the melon, it will be ok. Since I was not able to get to the bottom, I pulled the big pieces out and there are a lot of leftover left inside the melon. I have to slice it to pieces and cut the remaining melon out to make it work. It's a mess as the smaller pieces of melon keep falling out when I sliced the melon. They are all over the counter and the mat. The Melon Baller is about the size of a one dollar coin (slightly bigger than a quarter), it will take forever to use the scope to take the rest of the melon out. I really want to like it. But with 5 grown men in my household, this is too small. If you buy personal size watermelon, I am sure this is perfect for you. Or if you want your kids to help out, just give them the scope, it will keep them busy. I purchased this product at a reduced price to complete and post a factual review without compensation. I love this watermelon slicer! I've tried three different ones, and so far this one is the cheapest. Plus, you get a melon baller thrown in for those times you want to get a bit fancy.The blades on this tool aren't really sharp enough to cut yourself, but they are sharp enough to cut through melon. I will say, though, that I tested this on a cantaloupe rather than a larger melon, so I'm not sure how well it will work for larger items. The handle makes it much easier to use. I tried one without the plastic cover, and there was a huge difference.It takes some time to get used to using this, but it is much less messy than using a knife. I was honestly not a fan of this product. It was extremely hard to cut through to the bottom of my watermelon. I actually ended up just just using my usual knife about half way through as smaller pieced of melon were getting all over the place. This may work better on smaller melons, like honey dew and cantaloupe, but was a huge fail for watermelon. My purchase also came with a small melon baller. I;m assuming this would be used to get the rest of the melon down to the rind, but it is honestly so small that it would have taken me all day. So I again just used my knife as I usually do to ensure I got as much fruit out as possible.Also, the blade are flimsy and bent a little during use. I guess I was pushing too hard. :( I can only imagine how this product will fair in my drawer of other kitchen gadgets and gizmos.Long story short, I would NOT recommend this particular product to others. I see it is a waste of time and a waste of money (even if I did get it a discount for leaving a review.)

Ha, bought this as a gift but ended up keeping it! Works great! One of the best gadgets ever invented! You have to have one!
