Lol. Gm slowly but firmly push down and pull from the top and out if that makes sense. Hope that helps

Q: What size are the beads?

They are about 10/0 (same as 2mm)

Q: Is there any way I can purchase the chunky assorted beads separately?

Yes just put jewelry beads in search they have all sorts

Q: How do you detach the containers ?

It comes with a fairly heavy plastic sheet that wraps around the outside and holds the seed bead containers against the unit. The plastic sheet is see through clear and has little pop button tabs on the ends to join the ends of the plastic sheet together.
