Q: If you are laying your tablet horizontally to watch a movie, and the width of your tablet is 8 inches, will it fit the stand?

Your tablet will fit the stand.

Q: What are dimensions of the base piece? I have a tray that i want to use it in/on that is 4" deep, and wondering if the base will fit inside the tray.

The base piece is 8 inches wide and 5 1/8 inches deep.

Q: Why did this item break in shipping?

My stand broke too, I glue the lower lip with Elmer's glue, and i have not had a problem with the stand ever since.

Q: Will this support an ipad pro 12.9" in a folio case? i just broke my ipad air 2's stand because the new one's too big and heavy.

Checked the specs on http://www.apple.com/ipad-pro/specs/, should have no problem!
