Pickin On Led Zeppelin, Vol. 1 and 2 Audio CD – CD, October 14, 2003

An interesting twist to Led Zep classics . Tastefully done . Both cds are with the listen

I accidently got volume one - the CD was stuck in with a Led Zeppelin album I bought used at a flea market. I love Led Zeppelin and when I first saw it I thought it would be a cheesy ripoff cover band, but I was truly impressed. The musicians are world class and they do an incredible blue grass interpretation of classic Led Zeppelin tunes. In fact, volume one was so good that when I found out there was a second volume I had to have it! I cannot recommend this ablum enough and all of my Led Zeppelin loving friends who've heard this will tell you the same. Get it!

Many Zep songs are rooted by the flavors of old England, Ireland and Scotland...the same as American bluegrass obviously, but to hear them done AS bluegrass is a treat. Some tracks are not maybe 'true' bluegrass, but covers using traditional instruments. Others I'd say are bluegrass tried and true. I'm not a bluegrass guy, but I've always appreciated the muscianship and feeling of the music. As acoustic versions these are easy on the ears and easy on the mood. You don't head-bang to these versions, but enjoy them as a wine version of the whiskey.If I had to do it again I'd buy just the Vol. 1, as with a set of different musicians, according to the credits (or maybe because of the song list?), I find that more enjoyable than Vol.2. Of course then I'd always wonder about that second volume and end up getting it out of curiousity, or to complete the set. So there ya go!

i'm a huge Zephead & bluegrass fan. i decided to add my vote for how fresh & fun these pickers play some choice Zep tunes. Zep already has folk in them so stretching them to here is quite plausible. these players here play very spirited versions here & actually capture the Zeppelin spirit in their lively & dynamic playing.i love these cds & am ready for a volume 3.

The first volume is mind blowingly amazing. If you know Zeppelin you'll find yourself smiling and laughing at how unexpected the musical form is combined with Zeppelin but how successfully the soul of the music is captured, I did anyway. Playing it for a musician friend of mine, I was glad to see him laughing out loud at slide country guitar in Stairway, or Harmonica standing in for Robert's voice, or fiddle to carry the melody. However, the Second CD, while maybe technically good, does not capture the soul of the music, it is muted and something is missing. Save some $ and buy the Volume 1 and skip this Vol 1 and 2 Combination. Separate reviews of Vol. 2 are here  Pickin Led Zeppelin 2  and I think you'll find they agree with my point.

even if you are not a huge blue grass fan this album is great and a new take on a classic. I would recommend buying this album to any fan of Zeppelin or blue grass, i have been suprizingly satisfied

awesome two disc set. zeppelin were just frustrated blue grass players that went electric.can't stop listening to this.

Led Zeppelin im Country & Western Stil. Kann ich jetzt zwar nicht jeden Tag hören, aber als Cover oder Tribute CD auf alle Fälle hörenswert und schon etwas belustigend. Gehört meiner Meinung nach zu den Kuriositäten und sollte in keiner Led-Zeppelin Sammlung fehlen (Ähnlich wie "African Celebrates U2" in einer U2-Sammlung).Inwieweit dass diese Doppel-CD für Country-Fans von Interesse ist, kann ich nicht recht beurteilen. Es ist nicht die Musik, in der ich "zuhause" bin. Ich habe aber schon den Eindruck, dass die Darbietung auf hohem musikalischem Niveau ist. Ich denke, reinhören lohnt sich auch Coutry Fans allemal.

Excellent cover versions of Led Zepp tracks - but be aware: covers are not treated in Rock style BUT in Country & Western. To me such a treatment breathed a completely new life into those well-known tracks. They sound absolutely fresh and stunning. The service of Amazon and the seler was courtious and prompt. I recommend it to all Led Zep fans. Enjoy.
