Old fashioned
I read this as the author was strongly recommended to me by a fellow reader. Unfortunately it wasn’t to my taste, although I di read it to the end. I found it to be full of very dated gender stereotypes - a bit like old James Bond films but without the humour. Don’t think I would read any of the others.

A great baseline story for Gabriel all in
I enjoyed the plot in this book as it establishes Gabriel Allons back story and the tragedy in his life .He is a reluctant spy who is an absolute professional and his nemesis is Tariq .A Palestinian whose family was killed by Israel and his anger and brutality is just as effective and brutal as Gabriel. The changes in location and the shooting in Paris are dramatic which sets of a chain of events .Each side is looking at each other figuring out what they know .The ending was a bit anti climatic as it was building up to a showdown.Overall good read to establish Gabriel Allon.

Entertaining
The Kill Artist is an enjoyable page-turning spy novel. It is very much of the “best-seller” type of novel but it is well written. There really isn’t a dull moment in the story, and despite the story having everything from spies, assassins, fashion models, art dealers and newspaper magnates, etc. in it, it somehow manages to maintain a certain level of plausibility and credibility. I felt that toward the end of the book, when the action picked up, the quality of the writing deteriorated slightly and the story became far-fetched. However, overall this is recommended as an entertaining spy novel.

Assassin or art restorer. Both!
Well crafted action adventure with interesting characters and more dubious morals. Greatly enjoyed and was entertained if a little light weight. perfect beach or airport reading.
