Reliable and Easy to Share
This handheld whistle has been great for practices. It’s loud, easy to use, and super convenient to have on hand. I especially like that it’s easy to share if one of my coaches forgets theirs—it’s a simple backup that comes in handy more often than you’d think. A solid, reliable whistle for any coaching setup.

It works or it doesn't. Replacement for one that died after 2 seasons of use.
Replacement for one that died after 2 seasons of use. We'll see how long this one lasts. It works, gets the job done. Could be louder, but that's the nature of electronic vs blow whistles. At least I'm not losing more hearing.

Fox 40 Pearl Whistle
The Fox 40 Pearl Whistle with Wrist Lanyard (Blue) is a reliable and high-quality whistle ideal for coaches, referees, lifeguards, and outdoor enthusiasts, however, I use it for my students when they are at playtime as well as to get their attention in class. Its crisp, clear sound carries well over long distances, even in noisy environments, ensuring it gets attention quickly when needed. The design is compact and durable, with a smooth plastic finish that’s comfortable to hold, while the included wrist lanyard keeps it secure and easily accessible during activities. The vibrant blue color adds a stylish touch and makes it easy to spot in a gear bag. Overall, it’s a practical, well-made whistle that combines performance, convenience, and durability. This whistle does performs the job that I bought it for.

Works well
I got this whistle to use when I was wearing a mask to teach. I am still using this even though we don’t have to wear masks anymore. The noise level is great and I like the different tones.

Disappointing
One month….. One month to the day….. That’s all I got out of this product before it died on me. A catastrophic failure mid game. Thankfully I had a backup (different brand). The worst thing is that it was 4 days after the return window closed.Other that, I was sent the wrong item. I ordered the 9V battery operated version but received the rechargeable version instead. I dealt with with it because I needed something immediately. Throughout the month of use, I had some issues with lessened volume on occasions but was able to correct the problem by covering the open with my hand to “repressurize” it. This seem to work until it completely failed. Maybe I’ll open it up to see exactly what’s cause the rechargeable version to fail.Avoid!

Sounds good, works well, until it doesn't.
The media could not be loaded. I am a soccer referee and have been for over 20 years. I bought 2 of these based on the 4.3 star rating thinking that this was a solid product and it would keep whistle noise from affecting my hearing any further. I am disappointed in the reliability and quality. I don't know whether I am unlucky or the production quality/design has changed. The main issue, for me, is that the tone switch doesn't seem very robust. The switch, when moving between the 3 tone modes, worked fine at first. However, after a few uses, it wouldn't consistently switch between mode 2 and 3. Sometimes, after switching into what I thought was mode 3, it is actually on Mode 2 (which is an odd "electronic" beeping emergency sound instead of a whistle sound). This made for some awkward situations as a referee. After having 2 Fox40 electronic whistles fail this same way, I have tried another brand (aswayke). See pics (for comparison) and video for further detail on the switch. Here are my main thoughts (with some comparisons to the aswayke unit):Pros (things I liked about the unit)- Able to generate sound further away from face/ears, protecting hearing better (primary reason for purchase)- The battery is replaceable with a readily available size/type- The 9V is a good type as it can be purchased in a rechargeable version (if the battery goes bad, the whistle isn't garbage)- The color is great as a soccer referee (doesn't draw attention or distract)- The lanyard is a nice length and has a button to adjust (for wrist usage, if desired) but can be used for holding while writing- Has textured area (top and bottom) to help reduce slippage in your hand- Has 2 "whistle" sounds, one is similar to a Fox 40 and one is like a pea whistle- Quick shipping and free returnsCons (issues I had while using the unit)- The switch failed on 2 units (1 about 2 weeks of usage, 1 after 1 day of usage)- Switch can be toggled accidentally while holding it and writing (switch can bump out of position against your leg or while switching hands)- Sound button seemed to be slightly finicky when pressing, but not all the time (makes me wonder about its longevity)- 9V battery compartment is a little fiddly to get open (this could also be a pro as it won't open accidentally)- More rounded form factor means it can be more difficult to locate the whistle button when swapping hands quickly- One sound mode is an "electronic" beeping sound, designed to be used as an emergency style sound (would be nicer with just whistle sounds)- Not sure how waterproof this design is given the annunciator appears open and the switch wiggles a little and is not a sealed style switch- Unit is a little bulky in the hand compared to the aswayke replacement (likely due to 9V battery)Miscellaneous (neutral observations)- Weighs slightly more (0.6oz) than the aswayke one- Unit has bigger diameter than aswayke (see pics)- Rounded form factor means it can roll around on a flat surface (aswayke has flat surfaces on top and bottom)- Unit is slightly longer than the aswayke oneI really wanted to like the Fox40 and given the whistle sounds it makes, I prefer it to other alternatives. However, since it isn't reliable, I can't recommend it. If they could somehow make a more robust one without the faults I've mentioned, I would certainly buy it. I also looked at the rechargeable Fox40, but it only has 1 sound option and is rather large and some reviews say it isn't as loud. Hence, I went with the aswayke as the best alternative (even though it doesn't have the Fox40 like sound and is more pea whistle in style).
