Gollancz What Abigail Did That Summer: A Rivers of London Novella

Entertaining urban fantasy series.Re-readable.

I did enjoy WADTS, but it almost seemed to be set for teens to read. I know thats what Abigail is but, I am more used to the Peter books. Hopefully one of those is coming soon.

Ich liebe die Reihe um Peter Grant und auch Aaronovitch Schreibstil.Ich finde auch das Buch sehr gut.Mein Exemplar hatte nur leider einige nicht so gut gedruckte Seiten mit verschmiert Tinte. Es war zwar lesbar allerdings trotzdem ein wenig ärgerlich. Da ich das Buch allerdings auch nicht sofort gelesen habe ist mir das zu spät aufgefallen.Ich rate daher dazu, das Buch nach dem Kauf erst einmal durchzublättern.Das kleine Manko hat der Geschichte allerdings keinen Abbruch getan und ich hab es jetzt schon zum zweiten Mal gelesen und dabei total die Zeit vergessen

No spoilers obviously… This is a fun addition to the Rivers of London series of books and covers what happens to the character Abigail while Peter Grant was out of the capital, covered in the book Foxglove Summer. Fans of the series will find that interesting information but this story could be read without having encountered any of the characters previously, such is the easy reading nature of the book and this is helped by the author providing footnotes now and then which are supposed to explain various things to an American audience but serve to help a newbie negotiate their way through the fantasy world of the ‘Rivers’.Suffice to say, we do learn what Abigail did that summer, but most importantly we get to know her character in greater detail, along with the foxes in which she confides. The story is written from Abigail’s point of view, much as the other books are from Peter’s, although I did find her London-esque street slang to be a little forced and annoying at times, ‘fam’… !A worthy addition to the series and a fun, fast-paced page turner to boot. Let’s hope that Abigail will now feature more prominently in forthcoming books of this excellent series.

Aaronovitch is an author you either like or don't understand. This was an entertaining diversuion from the mainstream Rivers of London novels. If you enjoyed them you will enjoy this.
