Good item but how to replace battery at a later date when it no longer holds a charge ?
Good Product only thing I found is the battery. The unit is factory sealed making it disposable once the battery years later won't hold a charge. Home made solution use a Dremel or similar rotary tool to cut around at the factory glued edges to get access to inside to change battery years later. Then when replaced to reseal if desired use crazy glue along the cut edges with a straw to take up the gap. To harden glue and straw instantly and allow hard like concrete spring baking soda on wet glue for a instant harden of glue ( A chemical reaction makes the glue instant hard and like concrete. Thus making the sealed unit once again. or sending it back to the mfg to replace battery but shipping costs kill that idea. eworry about is a year or two down the road how do I replace the battery as it seems it is a completely sealed unit. I could not find any instructions anywhere how to open it to replace the battery when it no longer holds a charge.

2 of them dead on arrival.
I ordered one of these, plugged it in to get the NEMA output and it never reported anything. So, I went through the RMA route and got another one. Which actually output NEMA messages for about 3 minutes. Now it appears to be dead in the same way as the first unit. It powers on, and registers if I plug it into a computer but alas, it seems the GPS chip is just missing. Using the Canmore software, I also never get any track logs and the device never starts blinking that it has obtained a GPS signal. So, it's basically a heavy usb stick with a blue LED that does nothing.I've contacted Canmore and tried their reset process (hold down both buttons for 2-3 seconds) but alas, it never appears to come back to life. This is a cheap GPS but given how cheap it is, I'm not sure you want to gamble down at this level.

at best. The software makes the hardware purchase one I ...
The GT-740FL came with version 1.1.10 of Canmore's Canway software. The software was so buggy it had to be started over and over again as it wouldn't start without a "script error". I downloaded version 1.1.12 and it starts more often without a "script error", but it still isn't error free. The software seems to be unable to show me what time I was at a specific point on my route. It is very basic, at best. The software makes the hardware purchase one I regret. My other loggers provide so much more information. I like that its water proof, and its small size is a plus, but the software made it a bad purchase.

It is a good replacement for my Gisteq CD-111
The Logger is performing well. The vendor failed to provide the software necessary to offload data and reconfigure the unit. I found half of the software on the manufacturer's Taiwan website, which is adequate for my needs. It is a good replacement for my Gisteq CD-111. I would have liked to have a lanyard clip molded into the case.

Works well so far after you find the software - location included in this review
go to the following link to get the manual and necessary windows software: http://a.co/08BH8xh, you may have to "Search this list" for 'Canmore GT-740FL' to find it as I keep adding stuff to this list. You can only put amazon links in an amazon review, even if the seller does not provide them.-Manual not very helpful, location is in shared amazon list above-Software is called canway_1.1.12.exe-Software location is in shared amazon list above-Logger must be turned on for any of the software functions that interact with the logger to be successful.-To start recording, hold on/off for 3 seconds. The logs will start to record as soon as the gps location is locked on. It will continue to record until there is no motion for 5 mins or you turn it off by holding on/off for 3 seconds.-To change the recording options, install the software, turn on the logger, start software, then goto Logger -> Configuration to select the Com port. I want a recorded point every 1 second. You can also record a point by distance.-To view/download a trip. There is only one trip since last clear trip. Download the trip so far, goto Logger -> Download Trip-To Export GPX file (or any of the other formats) click on the track(s) to convert, goto File -> Export -> GPX-To restart log on logger goto Logger -> Clear Trip

Great little gadget
I’m very pleased with this device. I've been using it for several years to record my routes when traveling so I can geotag photos and create maps on Google Maps. The capacity of the device has been plenty for my needs. For example, set to record one point every 5 seconds, it will record over 3 weeks at 15 hours / day. The battery has lasted about 17 hours for me and it recharges in 1-2 hours, so I plug it in every night when traveling. There’s no indication of remaining battery capacity, so I always keep it charged up. I’ve also found this gadget useful for logging hikes and trail runs. It’s small and light enough to carry in even a small pocket in running shorts. The device generally locks onto the GPS signal quickly and does a good job of maintaining the signal while in vehicles. It’s better than my phone in this regard.I’m deducting one star because the software is bad. It does do an adequate job of downloading tracks and exporting them to GPX files, so that’s all I use it for.
