It performs as stated!
The thing I noticed about this holder is that the magnets have different strengths depending upon the location of the knives. The strongest magnets are in the center, and become weaker towards the ends. So you will have to place your knives accordingly. Also remember 12" is not a lot of room to place many knives, I have placed four knives on mine, 6 1/2-7 1/2 chefs knives, and two paring knives, and it seem to handle them fine, with the heaver knives in the middle, with adequate space between all of them to get my hands on them to remove them. Of course the size, and weight of your knives would change all this, so you will want to think about that as you will be somewhat limited for space? If your intention is to store a lot of knives you will need to order two of these. It does mount easy, and with little effort, but be "sure" it is secure, as you do not want your knives crashing to the floor!! I cannot say I would buy it again, but that has more to do with the length of it, and not the quality as it is nice and well made!

Top quality, strong magnets, great looking.
I got three of these and my get one more, that's how much I like this knife rack. The magnets are very strong so no worries at all about a knife sliding off by accident. They look fantastic, it's really nice wood. If you have wood in your kitchen, this is by far the best way to store your knives for both looks and function. I don't like the blocks that hide the blades so you don't know what knife your pick out until you pull it out and I don't like giving up valuable counter top space for knives, you don't need to, just get one or two of these and you'll be set. This is by far the safest way to store your sharp blades if you want to keep them sharp. Nothing touches the edges and that is as good as storage gets. Just make sure if you have really sharp knives, witch you should, that you always treat them like a loaded gun, pay attention to what you're doing when you grab for one, or put it back. Don't get lazy because rushing with a heavy sharp blade can do a lot of damage. Pay attention always to what you're doing when handling sharp tools, you'll be glad you did.Anyway, these knife racks are better than I expected them to be. They are worth the price.

Updated: good product, very good business owner.
OK, so I'm updating my review, changing from 1 star to 5 stars. After I sent it back, the owner of the company emailed me to ask why. I told him the magnets didn't hold and the knives fall off (see my original review below). He said it was a faulty unit, and he'd send me a different one. He then sent a photo of the new knife holder he was going to send me with a 2 pound wood plane hanging from it. When the knife holder arrived, I tested it and it was definitely much stronger! I now have it mounted with almost too many knives on it. I plan to order one, possibly two more. The quality of the holder is good, but the most impressive is the owner's attitude and approach. Very commendable.***I wanted this magnetic knife holder to match our cherry kitchen cabinets. However, when I put a knife on it, the knife immediately started sliding down and fell off. That happened with all the knives i put on except for a small paring knife. While the idea of a wood knife holder is very appealing, it seems that the magnet isn't strong enough under or inside the wood.

Good but could have a better mounting system.
The magnets are good and strong and hold well, at least in the 2 weeks they have been mounted. I knocked them down 1 star for the mounting system. The "blind" mount configuration is very time consuming to line up, level, and then tighten, trying to get the screws to have just the right amount of tension. After taking them on and off 30 times, I finally got the screw tension just right. You don't want these racks falling off when you take a knife off the rack or the consequences could be very serious. A better mounting system would be to be able to drive recessed screws into the holder and have a wood "plug" furnished to cover the screw head after mounting or even a metal screw in type plug to cover the mounting screws. This would reduce mounting time from 30 minutes to 3 minutes.

My new favorite kitchen tool
Loooooooooooooove these!!!! Seriously, my favorite Amazon buy out of the last 100 things I've bought! I usually go the easy route and just use dried herbs for the convenience but these scissors have changed that over the last week. They work effortlessly and in seconds! They even clean in seconds!I took pictures- you can see how they arrived, sealed in their package, and then how small they cut the herbs. That is cilantro in the photos and even though it was slightly wet, these scissors cut them without issue.Update: Sadly, hired kitchen staff for a party, had tossed these in the sink and then piled dishes on them... they broke... I cried... ok, not really, but I felt like crying. These have been so incredibly useful and I absolutely love them. I use them for everything from cilantro, to dill and they are just amazing. So here I am, buying my second pair. I just can't imagine life without them now!

wonderful but beware the impact of the magnetic field on nearby electronics
I bought two and mounted them on my tile backsplash using Scotch 414/DC Extreme Mounting Tape, 1 by 60-Inch, Black . They look gorgeous and function well; I'm very pleased.HOWEVER, the powerful magnetic field was too much for the small electronic brain of my oven just below them. Its clock lost hours of time each day so that it was always showing the wrong time and then after a few days the electronic control for my oven refused to operate, showing only a cryptic error code. To fix this I had to unplug the oven, move it two inches away from the knife holders, and plug it back in again. As long as I keep it an extra two inches away from the holders (i.e., the wall), my oven works. To me this minor inconvenience is worth the value I'm getting from these great holders.
