This movie is the perfect antidote for all the crap we've been going through. It is ridiculous, insane, weird, and funny. Even flat in a few places. BUT, it is FuN! I smiled most of the way though and laughed quite a few times.As a gay fellow, I must point out that1) It opens with a Streisand song2) Segues to a ridiculous original candy-colored musical number3) Queue to disco Grace Jones singing Tomorrow from Annie before,4) Everybody dances to a club remix of My Heart Will Go On.Line: "they're just two pathetic Stellas trying to get their grooves back."Wiig as a pigment-challenged super-villain.Reba McEntyre as the sea nymph superhero.This movie is da bomb! Give it a chance!UPDATE: my rental window allowed me a second viewing. I can now honestly say that its one of the best movies I've ever seen - at least in the past two weeks. Damn, relax people! If you liked Romy and Michelle, Laverne and Shirley, Zoolander and Austin Powers you will like this. It is ridiculous and more fun the second time around. It also leaves you feeling good! A Happy, silly movie which we could all use now. I do predict a long life on demand and DVD. A destined cult film.And Wiigs villainess is a classic. Reba is a great big cherry on top! A real boost this weekend!

This was a fun romp. But very light when it came to what I expected from Kristen Wiig. I love her work so much I tend to enjoy everything she does but this was just a little too silly for me. Though I'm glad I saw it.

Fun movie. I enjoyed it. Great to hear Jamie Dornan sing and dance.

I read a NYT editorial lauding this movie, watched it after a particularly bumpy week, just what the doctor ordered! Fun, light, entertaining!

Unbelievably stupid movie.

Barb and Star Go To Vista Mar was one of those movies that gets funnier talking about it after you watch it, than it was watching it the first time. Don’t get me wrong the first time I was definitely laughing obnoxiously audible, but after the first 48 minutes the hilarity starts to wane. It gets funny, funnier and most entertaining the second or third time you see it. If I could just spend a few hours in Colorado eating some recreational gummy bears, I’d use that time to unwrap all the details of Barb and Star’s bedroom. It’s a masterpiece. Barb’s issue of “Culottes! Culottes! Culottes!” Is something I’d subscribe to and after the first issue I’d have to ask, “how high was I?” This movie was like Austin Powers meets Pineapple Express. You can decide if that speaks to you. I gave it 4 stars because this isn’t for everyone, but who it’s for is spot on.
