... found this book to be very helpful for someone like me with basic computer skills
I found this book to be very helpful for someone like me with basic computer skills. The book was in excellent condition and arrived a little early. The only negative comment I have is locating the topic on how to do a certain procedure ,once located I found the directions easy to follow. This difficulty is due to me not knowing all the computer names used for various functions. I would recommend it to others that have Windows 7 and need help on resolving computer issues.

Windows 7 for Dummies
I just bought a new computer because XP has become dated, although I didn't see any real reason to buy the new computer. Since the Windows are different and I haven't had a book to go by since Windows 95 for Dummies. I have always found these books to be helpful and there are many things to be found and many are quite helpful. I am glad that I got the book and it has been helpful although I don't have too much trouble finding my way through and around the new Windows. I could recommend the book, especially for beginners.I like these books because they are useful to the ordinary person. I have used many different Windows starting with Windows 95. I haven't heard anything good about Windows 8 so I shopped around until I found what I wanted in Windows 7. There seems to be a few more bells and whistles than what XP Windows had but I have always felt that XP was a good product and I didn't really want to change. I probably wouldn't have had to buy the book but it is handy to have if there is something that you need to find or know.

Who Wants to Learn About Windows 7?
I am a big fan of the For Dummies books and had another copy of this book, but lost it. I strongly recommend it as an easygoing read, yet an informative manual on the ins and outs of a PC with the Windows 7 setup. It doesn't cover every little thing possible, but, hey, there are plenty of questions I wouldn't even think to ask, let alone understand an answer to! This book covers basics and middle ground and some more advanced stuff in a very understandable way. Whenever I have a new subject to learn, a "Dummies" book is one of the first I will go for, because it covers just that, and it adds a little humor to lighten the load (I am NOT a computer person, and any smiles help!). If you need a Windows 7 manual, this is the first book to look for!

Not Bad But....
I purchased with hopes of learning the intricacies of windows 7 but that's not really what this is about.I read the other reviews before I purchased this but did not heed their warnings. If you have been using W/7 for several years as I have you pretty much know everything that this book will inform you of, that said there were a few things I had forgotten and as the preface says this is intended to be a reference book not a thesis on Windows. Nice to have though and not too pricey, use your own judgement

Another helpful Dummies book
Arriving a few years late! I am a Vista addict and my friends know me as Vista Bill! Recently I ordered a refurbished desktop that runs Windows 7. I immediately feared a dislike for this operating system. But... I was wrong! I like W7! It is, as some say, an operating system similar to Vista and could be referred to as "Vista SE" (Second Edition). The transition has been very smooth and my 81 year old brain adjusted quickly. But there are features that I knew little or nothing about in W7. I knew I needed a "Windows 7 for Dunnies" book! The Dummies books have led me through all of my computer endeavors over the years. I did not waste my money! I randomly flipped to a page and I discovered a very helpful feature that W7 has and Vista didn't. Paid for itself quickly! If you are using any version of Windows, be sure to purchase a "Dummies" book to find out everything that the operating system has to offer.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I describe myself as "computet challenged", but after the purchase of a new computer equiped with Windows 7, I was determined not to be. This book has shown me basic things , that like the book says, are things they think you already know (but don't), and helped me be more familiar and comfortable with my computer than I thought I could be. It's easy to follow, very descriptive and makes you feel like someone knows you feel stupid asking these questions but still need the answers anyway. The part I didn't expect is the humor, which makes you feel more at ease with the learning process. Thank you Andy !

This book has answered my questions.
I am a computer user, not a computer guru. I am sorry that XP is over, because I am very comfortable using it. Windows 7 is much different. But, with this book to help me, Windows 7 is much easier.Just one hint: Don't think you need to read the book cover-to cover to use Windows 7. Just read what you want to learn or what you need to answer your questions. When I became comfortable with Windows 7, I went back to the book to learn more about the system. I found that I better understood what I was reading, so I read more and more. Yes, it "hooked" me, and I enjoy reading it now--even the subjects that I don't have questions about. It's sorta like reading your new car's Owner's Manual. Confusing at first, but after driving that shining beauty for about a month, read the manual again and it makes more sense. Read it again after 2 months and you will enjoy all those gadgets that you didn't know you had in your shining beauty.

Nothing but praise
The price was great, and knowing it was used and I believe shown as only good condition, I expected dog eared pages, maybe scribbled notes, and at least a used look about it. It was for my mom, and She was so excited that it came from Australia, as if she was getting some great treasure from an exotic country, ha ha, but what we were really impressed by what that it looked BRAND NEW. She was very happy with it, as she refuses to shop from internet with her account info, but of course was fine with me doing it and risking complete identity theft she KNOWS will happen to her, lol, as well as getting a sub par product with no refunds, She was just thrilled, like she won something. Me, service and product and price were great, otherwise, its just a dumb book, lol. pleased with all aspects. Thank you

Making everything easier
"Windows 7 for Dummies" fulfils its promise to make everything easier. I have just upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 and needed a simple way to navigate around my new application. "Windows 7 for Dummies" by Andy Rathbone is just the job. It is both entertaining to read and an excellent reference book.

Have used the book only once but found it useful that time.
Judgeing the topics in the index and some article out of curiosity I would say that it will be very usefull when I have needs to check up in the future. I am convinced that I will be using Windows 7 for some time. I have no interest in going to Windows 8, I am with the users that have continued to use Windows 7. The fact that HP has started making Windows available as an option again says a lot.Peter

useful,but slightly disappointing
Having changed my XP laptop for one with Windows 7, this book certainly was a great help to get me startedIt was clearly aimed at a US audience, and this was occasionally a bit off-putting, I also had a feeling it was referring to an earlier edition of Windows 7, because the features referred to did not all tally with my version,It did cover pretty well all the essentials, however and I doubt that there is a better choice on the market.
