The End of Her
I’ve read lots of books by Shari Lapena and am eager to read her entire back catalogue this year, so have bumped them up my ever growing TBR list. The first for the year is The End of Her which was published in 2020.The End of Her is a gripping psychological thriller that explores the dark side of marriage, secrets, and lies and follows Stephanie and Patrick, a seemingly happy* couple with twin daughters, whose lives are turned upside down when a woman called Erica from Patrick’s past shows up and accuses him of murder.I say *seemingly happy, but what I actually meant is 2 sleep deprived adults struggling with newborn twins who won’t sleep at night and suffer from the worst colic EVER and cry all day long. Resulting in extreme stress and anxiety putting more pressure on their marriage, so when Erica pops up, poor old Stephanie is torn between believing her husband and suspecting him of murder and starts to question everything she knows about him and their relationship. As the tension mounts, secrets are revealed, lies are exposed, and lives are endangered. With complex and realistic portrayal of the characters, who are flawed and unreliable, the reader is kept guessing until the very end. As usual with Lapena’s books this is packed with twists and turns that surprise and shock the reader. The novel is a gripping and satisfying read for fans of the genre.

Shari Lapena builds the tension in her novels. The conclusion is never what you think. Great read

Ot her best book
Stephanie is married to Patrick and they have twins who have colic. The first chapters are constantly referencing how sleep deprived the parents are.. Very irritating. Sociopathic Erica had been Patrick’s mistress during his first marriage.and turns up in his second. .She creates situations where she blackmails people for large sums of money..It is all fairly implausible, but it was the abrupt ending that I disliked most. A main character killed unexpectedly . Is there going to be another book to continue the story? I won’t be buying it if there is..

An entertaining read.
I have read all of Lapena's books, and one thing I can say is that they are very easy reading. The style is very simple and they have a good pace to them, with a number of twists and turns. They certainly keep you guessing about the characters. You do, however, have to recognise that a lot of the events are not really plausible. You are required to 'suspend reality' a little, which can be annoying sometimes, when she really extends credibility. It has never prevented me from finishing her book, but I have often felt that the plot veers into fantasy, a little, and I feel like she believes the reader to be a little stupid, or unsophisticated.Having said that, her books, including this one, are entertaining and easy to read. She does draw you into the story and there is a feeling of wanting to read on quickly, to find out the truth. I find her books to be good holiday reads. A little light entertainment and escapism.

Phenomenal book!!
I picked this book up 4 days ago. Between taking care of all 4 of my kids, I FLEW through this book. I couldn't put it down. Twists and turns the whole way. I've read all Shari Lapena's books up to this point and she just doesn't miss. Incredible writer. I'm excited to start Not A Happy Family tonight.

It started ok, but then when out of hand
The book start nicely, with the characters presentation, which I must say it’s great. Then, we start to read and the action start. However, we never get to see some plausible explanation for anything but word against word, even the flashbacks are shallow, they don’t say anything but a character action that’s been happening currently as well. The main characters aren’t likable, and the villain is too easy to hate, we never get to see a human side of her… it could be batter, however is entertaining.

The End of Her has an ending that will shock you
What can I say about this book... it was addictive and I almost read the whole thing in one evening. I am a big fan of Shari Lapena's books and was super keen to read this. I am looking forward to chatting about it with #bestbookclub soon. It is a twisty and surprising domestic thriller with plenty of characters that you will love to hate. Be prepared to lose yourself in this one.Stephanie and Patrick are a happy but sleep deprived married couple. They have new born twin girls who have colic and both of them are suffering. But life is good...until Erica turns up. Patrick thought he had seen the last of her but she returns to make a horrendous accusation against him - that he killed his first wife. It was ruled an accident by the authorities but Erica has evidence that the police were not privy to at the time. And she wants money or she share that information. This is the beginning of a downward spiral for everybody that comes into contact with Erica - she is capable of ruining so many lives.Stephanie stands by Patrick at first, but the longer it goes on, the more lies she catches him in. Is her husband a killer? Is she safe? The End of Her has an ending that will shock you, I certainly didn't see it coming. Nothing is as it appears.
