RubbishPicture looks like it comes pre cut. I thought i would slit a cable in and it would shape itself around the length of the cable.No, you have to push your cable through the length of the tubing. Managed with an ipad cable but how am i supposed to do that with a 4 way mains cable? Am i meant to take all the plugs off and put them all back on again??Tried slicing along the length of the tubing and it literally crumbled in my hands.

It's great stuff on the surface but i won't know really until it's been through some abrasion. This stuff needs some know how to use. If you're having trouble what i do is after i cut i fold some heat shrink and put it inside then i unfold it so that the sleeve is over the heat shrink insert wires and all that, then pull the heat shrink off and put it over it to clinch the end. You can also just use a bit of metal or something heat it up and burn the end together to prevent separating.

I used this to cover and protect 18ga insulated wire that I installed to power new LED lights in my work van. I heated a long utility knife blade with a small propane torch and then pressed it through the braided sleeve to seal the ends from fraying. I also added shrink wrap tube using a heat gun. This has to be done carefully or the braided sleeve will melt. The description states that the sleeve "may fray" if not cut correctly. I can assure you that "it will definitely and drastically fray/unravel if not cut with a hot knife". You could probably even use a lighter to heat a sharp knife. Do not slice the sleeve with the hot knife though. It works best if you just press the hot knife through the sleeve. I'm not sure I would feel confident using this product as a "flame resistant" wire cover, even though the description states it is UL/ROHS/REACH. I found it melted very quickly, but I am not using it for that purpose. Overall, I am very pleased with this product and I will be buying it again.

These are built well, however get the larger size if you wish to put it on cords that you need to fit over the wall plug end. These are slightly too small for the standard two pronged north American power plug. Also I do recommend using a lighter to help seal the ends.

Worked excellent. Very easy to use. Works like the old school kids toys Chinese finger trap. Just trim ends and shrink wrap. Slide shrink wrap on from opposite end and it won’t bunch up.
