Bon livre

DEFINITELY A PAGE TURNER ~ A MUST FOR THE SERIOUS M.M. FAN!
An intense scrutiny detailing in the affairs of Marilyn Monroe's last year of life is not the type of book every Marilyn fan is interested in reading. On the other hand many of us that have been reading one account after another; some far reaching in believability to many that seem downright bizarre; MARILYN MONROE THE FINAL YEARS seems to have the key to straightening out all the loose ends, complications, & accusations of the subject into a story that tends to be quite acceptable as the truth of what really happened to Marilyn.Badman disproves theories that have been long upheld as truth in his exhaustive search into information, files, & proven facts from the past. Once incorrect notions have been dismissed, he continues on with his narrative towards resolution. In the past I have always been bothered by books that relied on quotes or interviews with marginal characters such as Robert Slatzer or Jeanne Carmen. If these people were just using Marilyn to spin a tale of their own importance (as is suspected in BOTH cases;) how can one then depend that the rest of a book is accurately researched? This author rids himself of such speculation from the start. Most disturbing is the description of the activities & degradation Marilyn suffered during what has been known as "the lost weekend" at the Cal-Neva Lodge in July 1962. The timeline of that weekend and other falsehoods have been cleared up but it's really not pleasant to read about the details of what supposedly went on. However, on the whole this book was indeed riveting & enjoyable as Badman also introduced many new tidbits of information never revealed in other books on Marilyn.

An interesting work on Monroe with much new information for this reader
Like countless other Monroe fans, I have read many books about her. I will admit that I have always been fascinated by her incompleted film "Something's Got to Give," so when I came across the book in a library, I knew I HAD to read it since it focused on the last two years of her life.Overall, I enjoyed the book very much, and I think the author did a great deal of research. Hopefully, it was all accurate!I did find it a bit annoying at times when he would say things like "I believe that... several times in his work. He was also a bit repetitive in some of his comments throughout the text. Some new information to me was that Dean Martin did, in the end, decide to accept a new leading lady after stating that he would work with no one but Marilyn. If that is true, it was news to me. Another thing I learned was that 20th Century Fox was seriously thinking of hiring Edie Adams, who did a Monroe imitation several times on tv, to finish the film. When Marilyn heard of this, she threatened to sue Fox for the use of her image. If that is true, it was news to me. Also, if true, the author discussed Marilyn being used sexually at the Cal-Neva Lodge. I had never heard of this incident before, but maybe he was right.Badman's analysis of his death is that her death was accidental due an overdose mixture of choral hydrate and Nembutal. No murder. No FBI scandal. No Mafia scandal. In the end, who knows?I found the work compelling, and I was sorry it was all done when I finished it.

Loved This Book
I am late in writing this, but the book arrived on time in excellent condition - gift-wrapped even! I read it a couple of months back, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The author debunks the multiple conspiracy theories surrounding Marilyn's death as well as the myriad questionable people who claimed to be either married to or to be Marilyn's best friend with their crazy stories and theories. Marilyn was truly way ahead of her time and a beautiful soul. She paved the way for those who followed her. I have been a fan of Marilyn's since I was nine years old. Like millions of others, I am an adoring fan of this one of a kind and truly amazing human being.
