Absolute top quality. Worth every penny!
I was so impressed with this that I purchased two superking protectors. They are not the cheapest but you get what you pay for! The cotton is superb quality and the depth is perfect for a mattress. The cotton is thick throughout and I love that the lining is cotton also, rather than plastic (which I tend to stay clear of). Its also well fitted and doesn't move on the mattress.I wash this with my whites and air dry (or pop over an electric clothes dryer) so that it doesn't shrink in the tumble dryer. I have no doubt it will last many years. A* an highly recommended.

Very cool 100% cotton outer and filling works better than waterproof ones.
After reading reviews saying some people were sent a cheap polyester version I ordered this directly from Cuddledown's Online shop instead of Amazon. It worked out slightly cheaper. If is most definitely 100% cotton on the top but although it has a polyester loose weave side, I blew air through the side and it passed through so was breathable. All cottons should really be washed as wool if you don't want it to shrink. Natural fibres become 'fulled' if they are subjected to water that is too hot (over 30°C) or too cold (below 30°C) or if the material is rubbed. A wool cycle is cooler but not cold and does mot cause as much friction. Dryers are bad for cotton so it's best to dry outside but not excessively jot sunshine. If you have to dry cotton indoors, then it's best to tumble dry on a low hest until damp, then air dry. Not too close to a radiator. Generally after you've washed woven natural fibres a couple of times the size will settle. Like a pair of old jeans.Previously I used mattress protectors as afnised by bed companies that were 100% waterproof to stop sweat stains on our new mattress but was very disappointed. Despite buying cotton topped M & S waterproof mattress protectors, which appeared good quality, when I took the protector off for washing I found it damp underneath. Basically water condensation was forming under the membrane protector but the wetness was not getting air through and couldn't get back out or dry off.I don't remember our parents ever getting waterproof purposed protectors, nor suffering ftom mouldy mattresses. Mattresses used to be cotton ticking or quick dry polycotton which is breathable but do you remember mid 20th century everybody had 100% wool blankets and beds always had a thick old lambswool blanket before the bottom sheet was put on? Wool is natural, breathable and rough. Bed bugs hate it, fewer dustmites live than in other materials. But, if wool gets damp it's tricky to dry. I'm allergic to wool.At my boarding school we got up 7 am every morning and immediately aired the bed pulling our beddding back. over a chair seat, then the top sheet was pulled at he end over the back of the chair and all layers were left srpsrated to air for 1½hrs while we showered, dressed and had breakfast after which we often had bed inspections (like the army or WRNS). It worked so I do that now when hubbie gets up.Anyway, I'm hoping that if my partner makes his side damp, at least when aired it'll dry. It's always under his pillow area that condensation forms. Modern mattresses like Silent night like to market the cool max, breathable qualities of their beds, how moisture will wick away then evaporate. But they then suggest you cover your mattress with a waterproof protector but it doesnt breathe. I'm hoping this cotton one which is natural will not get so hot, nor stinky like an old flannel screwed up thenl left in an airless cupboard. Here a list of what we've tried and failed:1. Memory foam bed with no protector but cotton sheets. Mattress became stained orange and mildewy2. Memory foam mattress with a.thick wool protector... Both stained and mildewy3. 100% cotton quilted mattress with old fashioned box springs. OK on its own, breathable but cold and got damp.4. 100% cotton quilted mattress. Put a cotton topped polyester base waterproof protector, went mouldy underneath the protector right onto mattress. Washed with bio liquid and vinegar, smell lingered. Partner insists waterproof backing made him too hot and sweaty.I'll add to this review once I've washed, dried and tested the Cuddledown one. Out of its zipped bag it seems really good quality. There is a slight fishy odour which is probably a treatment of the fabric, similar to cotton you buy for dressmaking or some new clothes. I believe that formaldehyde is used in cotton textiles treatment and weaving to protect fibres, kill any bugs and help bleaching, dyeing or printing. and that can not only leave a slightly fishy odour but cqn be carcinogenic to humans. I'd advise washing the protector before use to get rid of any odours.

Trop chaud !
