A square needle decreases contact stress by giving your fingers a flat surface to rest on while knitting. This is different from a traditionally-shaped round needle, which forces your fingers to rest on a smaller, convex-shaped surface area. Nice to handle
I can’t say for sure if these are any better than a standard round knitting needle but I like them and so far have not had a “cramp up” episode with my hand. I do seem to knit a little tighter but I am by no means an expert knitter.

Great needles
I've been wanting to try these needles for a while but they seem hard to find. The needle tips are sharp and make it easy to pick up finicky stitches. I like to use them for picking up stitches on a ridge for log cabin patterns. I thought the cable might make the yarn catch but it doesn't. Nice knitting needles!

These square needles are a dream to use. I love them and now I want all my needles to be square. In fact a have a few sets of square dpns by the same vendor. They have great glide for the yarn but at the same time the shape keeps the yarn from slipping off. Its great.
