Hits and misses.
Edit - 1-24-17 I took one star away but still rated them higher than maybe I should but they stood behind it and when it did work it worked good.So mine, like some of the others, decided to go crazy, I mean crazy. It would read temps over 500 no matter what I did. Normally when I cook I don't leave the probe in the meat but this time, on my grill at med low temps with it being so cold outside I decided to use it as it was designed so I could stay warm and watch the temp. My wild guess is that the something in the probes or wires does not last long if used this way - so be warned - either use it only to read the temp then remove it or be very careful (note - I am usually very easy and careful with my things so that may not help you)I replaced the sensor with the spare, which worked for a short time then it too decided to read only 500+ no matter what. New batteries, carefully checking the plug was inserted properly, tested the new batteries to be sure but still 500+ and the beeping alarm. To be fair after I figured out how to work around amazon's refund process (do not try it the normal way if you've had it over a month as Amazon refuses to take it back) they were good about honoring their warranty of a year. Contact a amazon employee via customer service and they will do a refund.I decided to try another brand next time around - this one - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014DAVCP4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1Wish me better luck this time.So far so good except for two pretty big issues and one small one that I have. The hits:1. Easy to use. Simple controls makes it easy enough for it to be usable by that one friend who drinks heavy.2. The probes seem tough. Time will tell but they seem quite sturdy and with an extra one they should outlast the rest of this unit.3. Seems very accurate in my testing with running hot water and compared to an infrared thermometer I have. The misses:1. It defaults to metric temps every time I turn it on. Why doesn't it default to the last setting type. Not a problem for you metric cookers but for people in the US it's a pain.2. The on-off switches are TINY and on the back. I predict a lot of batteries used up after I forget to turn it off since the switch is so hidden. Not for male hands either.3. Pretty frail plastic housings on both parts. Again time will tell but I can't see either surviving a 1 foot drop, let alone one from counter height.

Disappointed in Houston...Spend the extra money and purchase a higher quality unit
Great Reviews! That's the reason I purchased this product. I recently bought my dream, high-end pellet grill and realized that it did not have a temp probe which my other smoker did. I searched and the OEM grill maker's probe is $150 USD, and this was $40-50 and based off the reviews should work fine and it was remote, I thought this would be great for upcoming Holidays. I have used twice, once when I received and it worked fine, and now as I begin to prepare for some upcoming events the alarm go off at 550 degrees after 3-4 minutes of being on and will NOT stop, regardless of whether it is in meat or not and even if the remote probe is on or off. I have tried changing batteries, reset buttons, and no luck no troubleshooting has worked. I am back to old faithful a meat thermometer...raise the lid, stop the cooking process, check temp, and back to the guessing game. I should have spent the extra money (and I will) to purchase the OEM thermometer.

I have used it a few times with great results. I tried to use it this past ...
I bought this is september. I have used it a few times with great results. I tried to use it this past weekend and it would only register a temp of over 500 degrees farenheit. I changed the probe, that didnt work. I changed the batteries, that didnt work. I sent an email to grill captain with no response so far. At this point I can't recommend this product.UPDATE: I was hoping for a resolution after I sent the email, but all I got was "Sorry we haven't heard of this issue before"There was no offer to help resolve or replace. I definitely do not recommend this product. Very disappointed!!

It works fine but the preprogrammed temp settings are all wrong
I wish I bought a different thermometer. It works fine but the preprogrammed temp settings are all wrong. You can't set an alarm for a temp to pull meat from cooking. Say you want to pull a prime rib at 125 knowing the carry over will take you to medium rare you can't set the alarm for 125. All of their settings are too high for the desired doneness and with carryover become totally useless. 145 is not medium rare for beef. Look elsewhere.

Worked once
Don't waste your time. This worked the first time, then like everyone else, it stopped and just beeped/read way high.

AD SAID BUY ONE GET ONE FREE
The ad said buy one get one free, however I only received one. Looks look like a good device. I am disappointed that I was told buy one get one and that was not the case.
