Q: Why is the clip on the opposite side from the one in the picture?

Good Question!. During these troubling times I doubt that this is not the first screw-up you've noticed. The version I received has the pocket clip on the opposite end of the flipper, when closed. I really like this knife, the finish and action are great, a beefier take on the CRKT CEO.

Q: Is it spring assisted

The 256 Decatur is not a spring assisted knife. It has a very smooth opening action due to the ball bearings in the pivot. It opens with a quick flip of the flipper on the blade.
