Excellent Linux machine
I’ll preface all this with the one negative thing that was an annoyance: they put the function key in the bottom left corner instead of the ctrl. This is still a 5 star review because there’s an option in the bios to switch their functionality and the rest of what I have to say is praise.I had some specific requirements for a laptop and it met them all splendidly... I wanted it to be able to install Linux easily, have an rj45 jack (I didn’t realize how rare those were, but as a network admin I didn’t want to have to rely on a usb dongle), and was looking for a good core count cpu as I write/compile code frequently, do business work, etc. and didn’t care about gpu.My experience installing Linux was about the easiest one I’ve had (Lenovo specifically supports Ubuntu) and furthermore I was able to pull the windows pro license key, installed windows pro in VMware and had no problems with windows activation in the vm either. All I’ve done is set it up, but everything worked so well and met all my needs so well that I wanted to come write about my experience with the product. For the few people looking for something with those specific requirements, but it now!Edit: since Amazon reminded me about my review I’ll add my 2 cents on long term usage. I haven’t ran into many problems - since I have several VMs I’ve had to upgrade my ssd to be larger than 512 Gb and I had some problems with the screen going black and not waking back up but a bios update fixed that, so currently still a strong recommendation.

Excellent CPU with keyboard.
Yes, that's right. You get an excellent and very productive CPU with a great keyboard and all this in a good body case. The screen is very average by modern standards, the sound can be said to be absent at all, maybe of course things are much better in Windows, but I took it for Linux. The camera is somewhere from the 2000s. I wanted to try the new CPU in operation, but something tells me that this is my last Thinkpad. For some, it may be important: in Windows, the maximum screen brightness is very much underestimated, I was not enough of it on a sunny day working outside. On Linux, this situation is better. I've used the X260 for many years with a number of my modifications, and I thought my delight would be better. It's a good laptop to work with, but it's not versatile, unlike my old 2015 Macbook Pro 15. I needed the performance on Linux I got it, no more. I do not understand why it was impossible to put the sound and screen from the Thinkbook 13 G2 that I recently bought for office team. There's a stunning screen and super excellent sound. P14s even the interlocutor can be heard very quietly.Update: microphone and sound system works correctly only with Windows driver....

If you think moving to T480s to P14s is an upgrade....better think twice. It isn't.
If you are thinking of "upgrading" from the T480s to the P14s......DON'T. The P14s SUCKS. The battery life SUCKS. The heat management SUCKS. I am the President of the Company. We are a Lenovo shop. I had a flawless experience for years with the T480s. That machine never gave me a lick of trouble. Battery life was outstanding. Heat dissipation was outstanding. I figured I would "upgrade" to the P14s and handed my T480s down to a salesperson within our company. I regret it big time. I had the battery replaced under warranty and had to make time in my schedule to have a Lenovo authorized contractor replace the battery. No change at all. Battery life SUCKS. I am lucky to get a few hours out of it, even with drastic measures with the configuration to save battery power. The P14s is no comparison to the T480s. If you are still using a T480s keep it for as long as you can.

Business class Linux laptop
Excellent laptop at a competitive price. I originally wanted a T14 but found this P14s for cheaper. They're identical except for Windows driver certification which means nothing to me since I run Ubuntu on my computers. Thinkpad's are officially Ubuntu supported which made this laptop choice easy for me. Booting a usb thumb drive with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS was simple and straight forward. Just disable Secure Boot in the bios. The Ryzen 8 core (16 thread) CPU inside this laptop gives higher Geekbench results than my desktop with a Xeon E5-2680v1 8 core (16 thread). The quality of the P14s is top notch. I enjoy the keyboard and the track pad isn't bad either. The Webcam privacy shutter is a nice touch. In summary this is an awesome Linux laptop and will be my daily driver from now on.
