7 Musical Prodigies - How do two parents cope?
The true story of an exceptional family, this book tells what life has been like from the Mother's point of view. It reads as if she were talking to you. As I read it raised many questions: were they hothouse or helicopter parents? No, just parents with a belief in each child and in their family as a unit. Did they have the money to send the kids to elite music schools? not at all. How did they manage all that practice? They gave each child masses of attention, listened to them and encouraged the enthusiasm of very gifted children. What happened to 'me time' for parents? They never thought of it. I was amazed at the mother's energy and at both parents' dedication. Not great literature but a fascinating true story. And it is still continuing. A friend recommended it and I loved it. I am delighted to say that the bookgroup i belong to has chosen it for our September book. There will be much to discuss. Read it.

Beautifully and insightfully written. A musical must-read.
Kadie Kanneh-Mason is a wordsmith. She paints pictures with every sentence she writes and you get a real insight into what family life chez Kanneh-Mason is like. If you are interested in children, families, music, or you just like a REALLY, REALLY good book then this is for you!

A Honest opinion, good insight and turly inspirational
I brought this book because I wanted to learn their methodology, improve my ability in learning, what time and effort it takes to become skilful in playing a musical instrument.I can honestly say that overall, I did enjoy reading this book but I felt at times it didn't flow smoothly into the each paragraphs and it left the reader having to back track to make a fuller sense of what the writer was trying to convey. Having said this, the book was beautifully written by a mother giving her all to her children, husband and not even thinking about her own needs, that's a true women. The children are all grown up now and I wish them evey success in their lives and musical careers - hoping that anyone who reads this will find a pathway to success, be it musical or any other avenues in their life. Well done!

Remarkable family, remarkable mother
Most people must now know about the extraordinary Kanneh-Mason family and their incredible musical talents. But not too many will have heard how they got to where they are - a great deal of it is down to the parents' efforts to encourage them and their sacrifices to make it happen. This book is their mother's story of how they did it and it is a heart-warming and encouraging story. Certainly sets a standard!

An important read
I usually dislike memoirs and autobiographies, as they are usually inauthentic, dressed up to flatter the author. However, this book is different. Kadiatu Kanneh-Mason writes with such rawness and honesty. We get a tiny but honest glimpse into her family’s life and the safe sanctuary that she and her husband have built for their seven children. This is a book about love, hope, failure, success, family, truth, race, equality and being human. I feel it is a book everyone should read, as fundamental truths can be gleaned by us all. I wish the author and her fabulous family well. I look forward to seeing more of their triumphs and successes as a family and as professional musicians.

Fascinating, even if flawed
I really enjoyed this, despite the sloppy writing, the numerous occasions where she jumps from one topic to another without warning and the disrupted chronology.I am a musician and to read about the education given to these children and the battles they fought and won was fascinating. Their mother is clearly highly intelligent and writes well but not sure who her editor was and why they didn't do a better job. I have wondered whether Kadiatu is so highly rated (she is an academic herself) that either she did not allow changes or the editor was intimidated into not making them.At the end of the day the family are wonderfully talented and a tribute to her dedication, but her book is certainly flawed.

It’s nature versus nurture.
Fascinating to see how this family was raised. Yes they are exceptionally talented but the home environment was outstanding and came at a huge price.
