Brillant book. Great characters that come alive inside a thought provoking story. So glad there is another great author who is a joy to read.

Uptempo tales of days gone by
I have always been partial to a good TV period drama but never usually pick the genre for a holiday read. In a bid to side track murder and misery i opted for Artemisia. It was pretty up tempo, entertaining and a good find for a beach read. It was a little wordy for me in parts but a welcome find. Not many books keep me enthralled so i was delighted.Whats next D.G Rampton ?

splendid
This is one of the best regency novels I have read in ages. It has well rounded characters, a great plot and witty prose. I can’t wait to read her other books.

My rating would be a 4.5*.First a big thank you to DG Rampton for having written a book worthy of reading. Ms. Rampton has managed to capture my imagination, I felt as if I was there! It is exceedingly well-written, well-delivered as well as thoroughly engrossing! No many authors exist who write like Ms. Rampton - of course, Heyer comes to mind, but I did enjoy the infinitely more passion (not sexual) in this book. And there are many witty moments in this bookArtemisia is headstrong, vivacious and a real country girl. Learning to behave in polite society does not come naturally to her. Her chaperone, Lady Lubriot, seems very endearing but polished. Her task is to bring Artemisia to London to finally find the 20-year-old a husband. Artemisia's background is filled with scandal, controversy and danger. Jared, Lord Chysm is even more headstrong and is involved in espionage. He continually serves his country by finding information about Napoleon's plans. Both H & h clash from the first meeting and both are proud people who hide their sensitivity and feelings from one another. While the plot sounds rather the norm, the magic is created by Ms. Rampton's ability to tell a story that is not insipid and lacklustre, but rather to pull you into the scene. However, I have to say that for me personally, I would have preferred to see Artemisia grow in maturity and understanding towards the end of the book. In Chysm's case, perhaps a little more forthcoming in his feelings for her. As it is, one envisions a relationship filled with high drama, war on words and wills!

humorous
I have just finished reading this book and l cannot say that it is a humorous book. Perhaps that is me rather than the book.

Not as good as it thinks it is
Attracted to it by reviews butwas disappointed. Bad use of English and veryodd story especially at end. Certainly the humour was lacking and no way compares with Heyer

A new author for me with a new take on the Regency romance.
A thoroughly enjoyable read. The two lead characters were more complex than is usual in such historical fiction. The other characters were well drawn and believable. The storyline was more interesting than usual as well and kept my attention. Others have compared the author to Georgette Heyer and there are some similarities, but I think this author is on her own in this respect. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Delicious Regency Tangle
Delicious slice of Regency TangleA pitch perfect novel in its period detail and authentic languageNever once was my emersion in the plot broken by an alien word or feature that was glaringly modernThe story line was absorbing full of intrigue, twists and turns enhanced by gems of comic witYou will fall in love with the the characters major and minor from street waif and temperamental French chef to the irrepressible Artemisia herselfI loved it

Delightful Story!
The interaction between the characters was very entertaining. Their dialogue is extremely well written and the plot kept me reading late into the night. My first read by this author and it won't be the last!

loved it
With an undercurrent of danger, which becomes full blown along the way, two strongly opinionated people, inconveniently fall in love, but try to continue convincing themselves their emotions run in quite the opposite direction.Clever, witty, and highly evolved dialog. Well done. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Good read!
I thought this book leaning more to Georgette Heyer than Jane Austen, not that it mattered as I like both of them.Well written in good English and proper grammar, makes a nice change from so many books of this genre. The heroine was belivable, not one of these paragons of nature and fonts of wisdom that so many other writers subject us to.Shall definitely look out for her further books!

Good Read
It's got a lively plot, an interesting heroine and though the plot counts on our willing suspension of disbelief it doesn't do so outrageously. Dig in and have fun reading it.
