You can’t get season 2 because it doesn’t play on U. S. DVDs.
I bought season 1&3 but couldn’t get season 2 because it doesn’t play on U.S. dvds. It doesn’t make sense.

Formulaic, yet surprisingly effective cop show and J.Lo is impressive.
Shades of Blue is a smart, well-written star vehicle worthy of the actor-singer's talents as they have matured and been seasoned with experience. The pilot opens with a taped confession. Jennifer Lopez, who plays New York City Detective Harlee Santos, peers directly into a webcam. She looks exhausted."I always wanted to be a good cop," she says. "There's no straight line to that. I always told myself the ends would justify the means. Now that I'm at the end, I can't justify anything."We're suddenly torn away from this strange, compelling confession to the past, to a series of ugly events that occurred two weeks earlier. Events that unmask Harlee and her closest colleagues as bent cops involved in extortion, money-laundering, and murder.Harlee, a single mother putting her 16-year-old daughter, Christine (Sarah Jeffery), through private school, is part of an NYPD precinct led by the remarkably charismatic Lt. Bill Wozniak (Ray Liotta).Part of the unit's success is due to its pay-to-play policy: Officers allow drug dealers and bookies to ply their trade in designated zones in exchange for a percentage of the profit.Shades of Blue is the brainchild of screenwriter Adi Hasak ( 3 Days to Kill, From Paris With Love), who wastes no time informing the viewer of the extent of his protagonists' corruption. His drama isn't a mystery, but a deeper, more complex character study about people with good intentions who struggle with moral issues and make bad judgments. This is equally true of the drama's closest thing to a white knight, FBI Agent Robert Stahl (Warren Kole), who pressures Harlee to inform on her friends. He's a stickler for the rules, but his judgment is compromised by his outsize ambition and his growing obsession with Harlee's love life.Shades of Blue marks a refreshing departure from the usual, formulaic crime offerings. It is hardly as revolutionary as ABC's extraordinary American Crime, which upends the crime-show genre entirely. But the terrific writing and wonderful performances in Shades make it one of the year's most promising new dramas.

Love this show!
Love this show! When I heard that Jennifer Lopez was doing a dramatic TV show, I couldn't wait to see it. And she does not disappoint.Jennifer Lopez plays Harlee a single mother who is a police detective in New York. She is one of six detectives in a squad led by "Woz" played by the very talented Ray Liotta. Woz, Harlee, and the other detectives play a little dirty to keep their streets and their families safe. Enter in a FBI agent who very quickly is obsessed by Harlee. There are many twists and turns in this series and just when you think you have each person pegged into how far they will go, something else happens that makes your jaw drop. A perfect example is the last few minutes of the last episode in season one. It will blow your mind.Annette Evansauthor of Family Secrets and Lies

Adrian: Best performance of her career
I wasn't a big Jennifer Lopez fan 25 years ago. Money Train was one of her first movies when she was a co-star.However, The T.V. Series; Shades Of Blue, was her best performance of her career. She really stood out as an actress along with Ray Liotta. I have season 1 on dvd. I will purchase seasons 2 & 3 soon. Its too bad the series ended in 3 seasons. JLO should do more detective movies, and crime-drama series.

B- to C+ show with solid performances by Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta, but it falls short somewhere
Average to a little better than average. We watch a lot of great shows, Game of Thrones; Handmaid's Tale (Hulu original); Billions (Showtime); Homeland, House of Cards - just to give you an idea as to our taste. We like smart writing. We only watched a couple of episodes of this and would give it a B- to C+ rating overall. We didn't continue watching it but it's worth viewing if you've finished all the best shows out there and want something to watch. Solid performances from Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta, but just isn't up to our standards of what we think is the best out there - but it's still good overall.

Depressing and Dark
If you are looking for a crime show with good guys, you won't find it in this series.I thought I would like it based on the description and the fact it was TV-14, so I could enjoy it with my older teens. It is definitely not an uplifting series like Bluebloods where there are good cops vs. criminals. The cops are the criminals, along with the criminals, and it shows a whole different side of the NYPD. It was not for me. Unfortunately, I purchase the whole series and should have just purchased one show to make sure it was something we would enjoy as a family.

Not sure if it really knows what direction it wants to go (like these corrupt cops vs hate these corrupt cops)
It didn't seem to find its footing until a few episodes in. Not sure if it really knows what direction it wants to go (like these corrupt cops vs hate these corrupt cops). Might be interesting if they toyed with going deeper and darker into corruption (of morals and ethics in these cops). Of course they'd run the risk of the audience not liking them but it might be an interesting exploration (how being dirty becomes second nature). And to balance this, I hope the rookie detective continues to struggle with morals and a feeling of obligation to his unit. He'll become the troubled hero. For Season 2 (if there is a season 2):The FBI group is eh. They could drop this group. But they need an investigator. Might be interesting to create an investigator who comes off as weak and easily manipulated but is sort of an idiot savant (the brilliant Columbo type).Plus, I hope they'll courageously explore the dark road of corruption (like Training Day brilliantly did).

TOP NOTCH NASTINESS THAT COMMANDS YOUR ATTENTION FROM BEGINNING TO END
This is definitely '5 star' stuff. Within the first four minutes of episode one you get hit with a surprisingly deceptive twist in events to challenge what you've already assumed the cop's personalities were like, which provides you with the certain understanding that Harlee Santos ( Jennifer Lopez ) is definitely not the nice, morally dependable, female cop you thought she'd be. Twenty minutes in you get the second belt to your senses to cause you to reappraise matters further. Thirty four minutes in another totally unexpected act reels you round again and by the fortieth minute the foundations of your expectations have been completely blown away from under your feet to ensure that you'll be watching the next twelve episodes of this really gripping story to see what can possibly happen by the end. No one is innocent except for the odd child that may appear in one scene or another. Everyone is scrabbling for survival in the quagmire of corruption they've create for themselves, and they all know the price to be paid for making just one wrong move that doesn't fit. A great performance from Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta acts out the role of the family man cop, with a sideline in psychopathic tendencies, to a magnificent standard. This is a top notch film that they, thankfully, didn't boil down to a reduced couple of hours of action. No, they needed a lot more time to get the whole story in without cutting corners. What you get is thirteen 40 minute episodes of gripping twists, turns, and slides of fortune and fate in a decidedly shady cop's world where everyone is forced to survive on their wits and the stakes are far too high for failure.Eamonn

Awesome cast
I love this show. Ray Liotta and Jennifer Lopez are acting well. When you think they have hit rock bottom, something worse happens. Disastrous consequences to very bad choices. Watch the show, you won't be disappointed.

Great Cast, But Bog Standard Script
This series has 13 episodes over 3 discs, it has a great cast Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta. Unfortunately the script isn't strong enough, what follows is a fairly average police corruption drama, its watchable but not memorable.
