NRSV, The HarperCollins Catholic Gift Bible, Imitation Leather, White

I am not Catholic, but I wanted a copy of the NRSV to compare side-by-side with other translations. I also wanted a copy of the Apocrypha. I saw this Bible at a local bookstore and since it is the NRSV and because Catholic Bibles do include the Apocrypha, it was win-win for me so I ordered it from Amazon.First, let me just say that the outside cover looks really nice. The Burgundy is super sharp.Even better than the cover itself is the content. The beginning has a very informative editor note, an introduction to each book of the Bible, several maps that are actually helpful, and a section that outlines many of the core beliefs of the Catholic church, including a step-by-step explanation of the Apostles' Creed. This brilliant and succinct explanation section on Catholicism was something that I, who am not Catholic, was really able to enjoy. So I can only imagine its value for Catholics.As for the translation, this is the anglicized text, which means it is not written in standard American English. The main thing the reader will notice with this is spelling changes (example: "honor" is spelled "honour"). The NRSV itself is a beautiful translation that combines a fairly literal translation of the text with excellent readability. It stands side-by-side with such translations as the ESV or NASB as some of the best English translations.This is a "gift edition" Bible, so if you are buying this as a gift for someone, it certainly will be a helpful tool for them for many years to come.Overall, I like this Bible so much that I have adopted it as the primary Bible for my academic studies (I'm a Biblical Studies undergrad) as well as for my own personal devotions. Catholic or not, this a wonderfully put together Bible that I would recommend to anyone.

I have been very excited over the past year or so to see that HarperCollins has published new editions of the NRSV Catholic Edition. This edition is notable because it fits nicely in the hand when reading, as well as being a good size to take with you on the road. This, however, is not a compact Bible, yet it is smaller than a typical standard medium-sized one. (This is nice, since the print is not too small.) In addition, the cover is very flexible and durable.What make this Bible even better is the additional material at the beginning. It includes reading guides, introduction to Catholic Spiritual life, a cool picture of Pope Benedict XVI, Maps, chronology of Catholic history, reading plan, and introductions to each book of the Bible. (What makes the book introductions useful is that they contain information as to when the particular book is read during the liturgical calendar.) Of course, at the end of the book is a handy concordance, which can be helpful at times.If there were two things I would like to see added in future editions, they would be scriptural cross-references and a list of the 3-Year Mass reading cycle, at least for Sundays and Holy Days.But overall, if you are looking for an everyday Bible that you can use for helping your prayer life, this Bible certainly fits the bill. It would be great to see HarperCollins continue to publish fine Catholic Bibles like this one, perhaps even a Catholic study Bible to compete with the Oxford editions.

bought this as a wedding gift to our Bible sharing follower.. have a quick scan to compare it to my so many copies of different editions.. a perfect gift for a passionate bible reader. English translation is easy and book is not so big to carry around nor not so small for easy reading..

I am very satisfied with this bible. I like the size bc I can take along when I travel. Easy to read, the pages are not too thin like other bibles.

I ordered this as a gift for myself. I had always wanted a Catholic bible. I had wanted a white leather bible or at least a quality white bible. This purchase was amazing. I do not know if it is leather but it is a beautiful high quality bible. I love my gift I am so happy that I treated myself. I highly recommend it as a first holy communion or confirmation gift.

I bought this bible several years ago for my older son's Holy Communion gift. I bought his bible in black. This bible I bought for my daughter's Holy Communion. It is a beautiful gift.

The white cover and gold lettering is really pretty. Would make a great wedding, First Communion, Confirmation, Baptism, or just because gift. Pages are in fact Bible pages (thinner) and the passages are easy to read.

I love this Bible but old English words make it too distracting as I have to get my phone constantly to search for definition of words that I cannot understand. I wished they used simpler words. Otherwise this Bible would be perfect.

What an amazing bible and print is just big enough,cover is really beautiful and it fits nicely in my handbag, love it 😍

オフホワイトに染められた本仔牛革と型押し牛革のコンビで縫製も丁寧…HOLY BIBLEの金文字も洒落てます。カトリックの聖書としては軽く携帯に良い部類かな、本文に入る前のカトリックの信仰、聖書の解説が非常に良心的です。紙は少し薄手でフォントも細身なものですがサイズは大きめで読みやすい、栞は白い可愛いリボンです…素晴らしい出来の聖書なのですが…男の私には不似合いな気がしましたので、汚さないうちに、私が姉貴と尊敬申し上げる女性にプレゼントしました。
